yeah DC has nice amount of conscious/alternative style rappers.....outside of a few, all the street/gangsta rappers are either generic or garbage.....tabi bonney was a cat i thought he would blow up back in 06-07, but i respect the fact he stay's true to his element plus he' s made a name for himself as a producer......SHOUTS OUT to Chink Santana though i fux wit him hard(nh)

Just to put it in the air first....I go to school in D.C. now & I split time growing up between Philly, Chester, Wilmington, DE & Elkton, MD so I've spent many of weekends in Baltimore to soak up game. This why yall not getting on.

    1. Crab Mentality

Yall not known nationally for hip hop, so naturally it's a competition to be the first nigga to blow. It's too ways to go about that shit.

St Louis / Nelly - He put on St. Louis, blew the door open for them niggas. But he also caught a big head & acted like everybody had to kiss his ass coming up. If you watched Beef DVD, you'd see how his personality is. You not gonna build no movement in your city when everybody is out for self & on some arrogant shit. Instead of working together to all blow simultaneously, everybody is DC is clawing through niggas to be the king of the city, the number one dude, the nigga to blow first.

Miami / DJ Khaled & them - All them niggas came through together. Rick Ross, Flo Rida, Plies, Lil Wayne (he re-energized his career in 2007, Did the Mixtapes, Cash Money moved to Miami). It was all love & they all got money together. Same thing with Houston.

Bmore & DC can blow if yall follow the second example.

DC, Baltimore, and Philly are in that same Mid-Atlantic boat full of crabs. I used to live in North Philly and there's plenty of talent and haters there too. I agree that the "Miami model" for putting your city on is the best way and Wale sorta is working on that by co-signing artists like Kingpen Slim and Phil Ade. go-go still runs the city, but not like it used to. A lot of the real go-go heads have moved out to PG County. DC has gone through a serious demographic change over the last 10 years. In 10 more years the city will be mostly white. Irronically, this will make it easier to have a rap scene without go-go dominating everyone's attention.

    2. Difference in Culture

Yall culture is weird LOL. People that's not from the DMV don't understand Go-Go or Baltimore club music. Yall suffer from that Mid-Atlantic shit. Not southern enough to be from the Dirty Dirty....not northern enough to be from the East Coast. I see niggas walking around with Dreadlocks, goldfronts, skintight skinny jeans & new balances. In the summer time, niggas weak 4 pairs of socks all color coordinated with their outfit.

If yall found a way to integrate Go-Go or Baltimore club into yall music while keeping it Hip Hop instead of letting that shit dominate the song, yall might get more interest outside of the DMV Area.

Agreed that the culture here is weird. I blame it on the youngins with these thick ass accents. Dont know where they got that from, but we aren't that far south. It's improving though. I don't see as many people rocking those funny colored Madness outfits.[/COLOR]

    3. Movement

The rappers currently out are Lame. Either you have it or dont. Wale, Tabi Bonney, etc.....lame. Yall need a thoroughbred, certified nigga to break through. A Jay-Z, a Kanye West or a 50 Cent. The minute one certified nigga blow from yall city, it'll give the area HIP HOP (not street, hip hop) credibility & people will check for others. The same goes for a Movement. If a Wu-Tang, Diplomats or NWA type group comes out of the DMV.

We're a city known for comedy, live music, and violence. Everybody has a lane here. I don't see a real thoro street cat making music in a city like this. They tend to play the background. That's more of a NY/ ATL thing where fake gangster wanna rap. In D.C. the people who are built like that don't wanna dance around and sing on a stage.

Sorry for so much. To be honest...........I see Baltimore blowing way before I see DC blowing. I can see a 50 Cent or DMX like character coming out that city.

Baltimore has more haters than DC, but yeah B-More club music is more accessible than go-go. If the right rapper from there can mix it with hip hop they might have a shot.

I'm not the biggest Wale fan in the world either, but I still support. The locals who dont like him have a point. He's not actually from DC and he spent more time in NY anyway. His album was underwhelming and he doesnt incorporate as much go-go in his music anymore. And he got mad arrogant cuz he was down with Roc Nation and getting that push he thought he was gonna be the man.

    This was the joint tho:

at least he getting the area some positive attention that other people could have capitalize off of but since they shitted on him that didn't happen.

You can make that argument about rappers like Eminem, Jay-Z, Wayne or whoevers at the forefront getting hated on, but the purists will say they'd rather keep it real than make money or be famous.

who the hell are they????? wale not from my city, but he from the dmv so i have supported him by going to one of his shows and buying his album. My point is, you cant shun a whole area like the dmv because some dont support a artist or w/e the situation was.......i got homies in bmore, richmond va, p.g and d.c and all of them support wale. Some will support a artist, some wont, thats how the game goes.......Wale still out here doing his thing, and he is still working with folk from the dmv from phil ade (dc) to paula cambell (bmore) http://www.rockthemicnews.com/profiles/blogs/wale-starts-a-record-label-amp.........

im not the biggest wale fan myself, but i still support dude because he from the dmv and he makes decent music.......i got homies from dc to glenarden who either went to school with wale or they met him( Virginia State University and another college wale went too for football), they say he arrogant like you said and they say he be false claiming where he rep.......but all nonsense aside, wale doing his thing and i try to put as many people as i can on to his music to support him........this thread proves theres alot of quality artists doing there thing, they just need more support from the dmv.....

    Fire Starter: DMV Edition

Wale has been making a lot of noise lately after he inked a deal with Rick Ross to join the Bawse's Maybach Music Group. But the "Pretty Girls" MC isn't the only DMV (the Metro D.C. area, consisting of Obama's 'hood, Maryland and Virginia) artist on the come-up. Baltimore's Mullyman (with an assist from 50 Cent DJ Whoo Kid) and Silver Spring (by way of Cali) rhyme spitter Phil Adé are grinding like the Clipse. Here, the two spoke with Mixtape Daily about their latest projects. Kirk out, young.

    Mullyman
    Representing: Baltimore
    Mixtape: Mullyman vs. the Machine
    Standouts: "6:30 (Six Thirty)," "Greatness"

"The machine represent the norm, the conventional way of things being done," Mullyman told us about his recent offering. "The industry is pretty much set up where you hear the same songs over in repetition all day. It's set up to squeeze the little man out or leave little room for him to make moves. So what I stand for is the underdog. I want it to be known that I come from a place where there's never been an artist to make it from Baltimore. There's one artist that the world knows from the DMV, that's Wale. So where I come from, statistically, where I come from and in the game, period, the underdog is squeezed out. So Mullyman vs. Machine is me fighting for myself, my city, against a system that doesn't give us a voice. I'm basically trying to John Henry the game."

    Phil Adé
    Representing: Silver Spring, Maryland
    Mixtape: The Letterman
    Standouts: "My Story," "Like Dat"

"I have two projects,Starting on JV and The Letterman," Phil Adé told Mixtape Daily. "And really, those connect as a theme. As far as the difference between them, there's a difference in subject matter. When I first started, I was rapping about how I was better than everyone and how I could spit, I'm fire. [He laughs.] But now, as I've grown and seen things and moved around, seeing things in the industry and how my parents have reacted to it, I've had more experiences and seen more life. So you can see my graduation in the game. I just try to capture those experiences and give people an insight into my life.

Classic Thread. TS put me up on a lot of good music. Also, props to ol' dude who listed all of the those DMV legends who have made it in R&B, Go Go and non-musical endeavors. Ginuwine stayed reppin' that shit and helped Raheem not too long ago. The region ain't as slept on as people think, they just need some new blood.
