hot 97 doesn't play that nelly record but in the past few weeks i've heard in the morning alot.

however you say you dont hear j cole on the radio but you hear just a dream a lot.

so like i said it depends on where you are in the country

in 2002 yes, but 2011, HELL NO!

    nelly>>>>>>>>>>>>>j.cole
if j.cole is selling out universities
nelly would sell out whatever arena is in your town

well why hasn't he in recent times than? you have to be RELEVENT to sell out arenas. Nelly hasn't even sold out a local club around here.

Are we arguing how popular a rapper is in the mainstream....or are we arguing how relevant a rapper is to the hip hop community?

I thought...matterfact...I clearly said the hip hop community in the thread title. Because thats two way different arguments. Flo Rida is hot in the mainstream. But...the hip hop community doesn't place his value too high. I hear more about J. Cole then I do about Nelly.

nigga shut yo backtracking ass up
    fuck the hip hop community
and even still nelly is more relevant
    #1 single>>>>>>>>>>>>>>nothing at all
    200,000 albums sold>>>>>>>>>>>none at all

J.Cole got alot of fans where im at. He sold out a show at UAlbany (a university) and that's buzzin all threw town. I don't hear nobody talkin bout nelly where im at. Just face it u cole haters, Cole is relevant.

these niggas is dense...man, today was the first time i heard Just a Dream lol

and the sad part about this shit is.....the nigga arguing about Nelly don't even listen to Nelly but he tryna debate his relevancy.

you have to be rooting for a pretty pathetic ass nigga to compare him to someone that you label washed up. since j cole has all of this magical popularity in the hip hop community why wont you match him up to someone like Wiz or Drake. smh @ J Cole vs Nelly in 2011. why not J Cole vs Kwame or J Cole vs Young MC if yall niggas getting that desperate to grasp onto credibility

Tyga in 2011>J Cole in 2011

    ask the maalik nigga, honestly
he started this shit in another thread about how nelly was a flash in the pan artist
how j.cole's career would be better than his
even tho cole hasn't dropped a 2nd single or a an album yet
that's what started this "who's more relevant" talk
i really could give a fuck less about what nelly does
i don't listen to his music nor do i check for it
but a nigga tryna say that cole's POTENTIAL will grant him more success than nelly is plain ignorant
that's like a nigga sayin d.rose is the next isaiah thomas but then he goes on to jay williams himself
niggas need to start sayin "maybe he could" or "it's a possibility" instead of guaranteeing shit like that

im talking about the shit maalik is talking about. relevancy. fuck matchin J Cole against "washed up" niggas. Why not match him up to some niggas that came in the game at the same time or after him.

Why on earth would you argue that a rapper's relevant to everyone else when he's not even relevant to you.

oh ok, you heard just a dream for the first time today
    that makes nelly less relevant
well i ain't never heard in the morning
    so i win

    i don't hate j.cole
i just don't see the hype
he doesn't bring anything new to the table
his rhymes are mediocre and he seems like a try hard
every song i hear from him he seems as if he has a hip hop legacy in his mind
instead of trying to make a good song
just a ol rappin ass nigga
a ol, "i studied these albums and hip hop fans love them so ima pattern myself after them" type nigga
the nigga is nowhere near wack tho
    i'll never say that
but he ain't special as his fans seem to think by any means

Damn, I forgot all about Nelly. Can't even remember him doing shit besides that bullshit ass sweat/suit album that I aint even listen to. Niggas really hate Cole on the IC and act like in 2011, the majority of active/young hip hop listeners don't get their music from the internet.

the nigga ain't gotta be dope for me to know that his name carries more weight than j.cole
now if you had said j.cole is more relevant than say.......juvenile then i'd be inclined to agree
but you tryna put him against a nigga who recently had a #1 single
a nigga who gets mad radio and mtv airplay
