I hate Swizz Beats, he ain't that good at all, I don't like his beats but he was good when he was on Ruff Ryder but now he sucks.
Only 2 features, that's a good news cause I am getting tired of see too many feats these days, go back to 80's-90s style.
I don't want Rick Ross on this damn album, it doesn't make sense at all with the theme.
My dream two rapper be on this album.....actually I would love to see Eminem on this album but I don't like Eminem's voice right now, shit is annoying. If he used the voice like he did on SSLP, MMLP, EMS, 8 Mile so that would be cool.
I agreed with everybody said they need to get AZ back on this album.
Gonna ban @buttuh_b if this album is a disappointment. Nas never fails so dont get your militant shit on niggas. Refuse to ever let radio station niggas boost my anticipation.
Smh at someone tweeting he should have named it Illmatic p2
lol it'll probably get compared to illmatic anyway, but calling it illmatic pt 2 would've added unneeded pressure to have it measure up to the original
From what I can gather from different comments about the listening session after reading Twitter posts:
- 11 songs were played
- Swizz Beatz produced two joints which include "Summer On Smash" feat. Miguel and another joint
- Accidental Murder features Rick Ross over a production that is heavy on orchestration (they are guessing Salaam Remi and No I.D. produced the track, but Nas didn't reveal any of the producers)
- there's a track called "This Kind of Love" described as important
- there's a song that Miss Info said sounds like "The Genesis" from Illmatic sonically (could be the No I.D. produced "The Train")
-Nas performed the Swizz joints live w/ Swizz
- there's another song that's heavy on instrumentation (could be "Black Bond")
-there was also a song in which the bassline was complimented
- there was a song simply described as "ill"
-daughters was played
-the don was played
- nasty was played
- there are rumored surprises as about 5-7 tracks were not played
-"Summer on Smash" is the rumored next single
I don't even have to worry about controlling my expectations. We all know what time it is baby.
Black James Bond produced by Salaam with orchestration from No I.D. Looks like multiple producers contributed to some of the same songs (Black Bond, Accidental Murder, The Don)... That's interesting.
Also I'm positive it's gonna be a whole lot of unreleased material from this project hopefully we get on Lost Tapes 2.
vimeo HomeFeatures Nas Gets Nostalgic at Life is Good Album Listening PartyPublished on June 15th, 2012 by Georgette.
Nas gave fans a sneak peek into his 10th studio album titled Life is Good, at the New Museum in New York City. Truly a celebration, the intimate space was plastered with memorabilia of The Don himself, with photos of his current singles as well as a blast from his musical career past. A slew of hits from Nas’ catalog welcomed guests as they anxiously waited the listening session of the milestone album for an artist who has changed lives, dealt with personal trials and tribulations publicly, yet still coming out on top looking better than ever. Guest appearances included his brother Jungle, DJ Khaled, Erick Sermon, and Swizz Beatz.
Joie Manda, the new president of Def Jam Music Group, introduced Nas who then kicked it off Queensbridge style. They started off with the intro track, which carried an uptempo beat yet very personal lyrics. Other tracks included Accidental Murderer, which the DJ played back several times and other songs whose track titles weren’t mentioned as they were played. He performed his latest track Daughters and beaming like the proud father he was, shouted out other fathers for Father’s Day as well as his daughter’s birthday. He turned it up again, bringing Swizz Beatz to the stage to introduce the first track they worked on called Summer on Smash. They took it a step further and performed another Swizz track that’s sure to be a radio smash. Before Nas’ verse could drop, the crowd went crazy as they kept screaming back the hook for this untitled track. The DJ ran it back several times. Nas and Swizz even toyed around with the idea of dropping it today.
Nas brought his musical career back full circle on this album, solidifying his longevity and well deserved success despite the controversies over the years. While still remaining true to his lyricism, a diversity of tracks can be heard on this album, including those who still want the Illmatic Nas coupled with those who want to hear something new. Feeling his energy from across the room, he truly emulated his album title.
Rumored to be his last album with Def Jam, his 10th studio LP is a celebration for hip hop as well as himself. Life is Good hits stores July 17th.
