Now as a fan of the Camel I've been very critical of his efforts musically since he came back after The Black Album.
Kingdom Come wasn't a terrible album but was mainly carried by the Just Blaze production as well as Kanye's contributions and the raw produced intro "Prelude". After track #8 this album went down hill quick aside from Beach Chair, which is dope. This album was severely underwhelming for a comeback, but mainly due to Jay's decline in rapping abilities. (Also saying corny shit like 30 is the new 20 and wack subliminals at Jim Jones)
American Gangster seems to be an album that was liked by the fans and critics alike. This album is the biggest risk I've seen Jay take in a long time so I applaud him for that. The album is definitely mad cohesive and he came with hot singles like "Blue Magic" and "Roc Boys". So I like the album... but let's not get tooo hype. This joint was LACED with raw beats from The Hitmen and is arguably one of his top 3 produced albums. Pharrell laced the shit out of that "I Know" for Jay once again akin to "Allure". Although Jay did drop some gems in his rhymes "So fuck Dehaven for caving, that's why we don't speak.. Made men ain't supposed to make statements." he didn't seem to have any intensity or passion to his flow. I can't see any of his verses being ranked up with some of his best. (Also Beans murdered him on his own shit like always and Nas dissed him on his own album)
BP3 was wack after the 3rd song. Production, lyrics, and flow were all terrible. Jay's worst album to date by far. I like how he switched his flow up on So Ambitious though. And one of his verses on "Thank You" is definitely probably one of his better post-retirement verses.
The lead single from Watch the Tiara, H.A.M. is God awful.. and that brings us to today.
Jay has been hit and miss with the features over the past 8 years. The joints he did last summer with Ross and Drake definitely weren't bad. Jay got slayed on "Monster" and most of his G.O.O.D. Friday verses sounded sour and wack. "The Joy" was dope though. He had that Nas feature on Hip Hop is Dead.. a lot of Beyonce/Rihanna/Ne-Yo type pop songs.. I'm sure I'm missing some that you Jigga Warriors can bring up....
so what is yall top 5 Jay verses post retirement?? I'll name some of my favorite off top...
