The Physical Well Being Thread

I had made a similar thread before the upgrade but I am remaking it so that everyone can give their input, share tips as well as their routine as to how they maintain their physical well being in regards to fitness.

My main question is actually Part 2 so do not stop reading after Part 1 even if you don't care to answer Part 1.

*The highlighted are the questions to be answered.

Part 1

a. Take us through your workout routine.
b. What is your goal/target? What do you wish to achieve?
Is there a specific body part you focus on when working out? If so, what part is that and what do you find to be most effective when working on that area?

Part 2

Cardiovascular exercise is great to maintain a healthy body, you feel amazing and it's great for the heart.
With that said, it is a full body workout so naturally it targets all areas in general and weight loss often comes with the territory.

My question is, what should one do to maintain a fit physique and even target specific areas without losing weight in the "wanted/good" areas?

For example, after having a child my only focus was the abdomens. I didn't care or need to work on any other areas but sometimes with cardio comes the unwanted loss of weight in areas you never intended to work on. How can you tone certain areas without it affecting others? Tips and suggestions would be appreciated.
I know there is a specific kind of workout which assists with this but I can't remember what it consists of and I would like to hear everyone's feedback.

I threw away everything in my fridge the other day so now all I have is water, grapes, soy milk and greens.

Been doing these workout tapes at home and jogging....but I Just started doing all of that consistently this week so I dont think it counts as a "routine" yet

I'm tryna lose weight- a lot of it. Like 15 pounds. I wanna be 130

I quit workin out. Some fat girl preyed upon me last weekend and I blame the working out for her being unable to resist me. If I get out of shape again fat girls won't do that stuff to me anymore.

i have superior metabolism so I can eat what I want and it doesn't effect me. So I just have to fuck around on the pull up bar that hangs on top of my door frame for a few minutes a day just to keep everything loooking right.
  • i stopped working out for like 4 months messing with these females smh

ive been back in the gym just four weeks and i already feel more energetic.

plus I don't like elevators, so I walk up and down 29 flights of stairs some days at work. On top of that, between walking too and from my car and too and from my lunch break, I probably walk another 1-2 miles daily.

  • Part 1

    a. Cardiovascular- 60 minutes/day
I use my elliptical for 25-30 minutes at the start of my day (provided I have the time before I head out) and another 25-30 minutes at the end of my day. I usually opt for a program on the machine which works at different inclinations.
It starts at the lowest resistance and then increases and continues to go back and forth for 30 minutes.

    Toning- 400 crunches/day

24 bicycle leg kicks- I don't know what else to call them. You lay on your back, extend your legs while lifted off the ground and make a bicycling motion.
One leg out while other is bent and continue to go back and forth while your upper body is slightly lifted off of the ground to increase the intensity on the abs.

I used to dance for my cardio but now I just dance around my house when I feel to. I don't have carpet so it's like a dance studio in here, it's great for sliding moves and putting on concerts, ha.

    b. My aim is not to lose weight, just to tone and define, SLIGHTLY.
My goal is to maintain a healthy and fit physique and generally feel good. I like soft curves so I don't desire strong definition, obvious muscles such as a six pack. A flat, toned stomach is appealing to me. I don't like stomachs like like that of for example, Janet Jackson. Her stomach is too defined, IMO. I like my calves. I danced for close to 10 years so even now as an adult my calves have definition and with dancing for fun and my cardio they are even more defined.

I only focus on one part which is my stomach. I end up working everything out, which isn't always desirable, with the cardio but my only target is the abdomen. For myself, cardio and crunches work hand in hand. One is not effective without the other. Crunches target the muscles while cardio burns fat. If you only burn fat, the muscles still remain weak and you most likely won't form any definition. If you only work the muscles and have any extra meat in that area the muscles still lay under that meat so no matter how strong those muscles are, it isn't as evident.

Do you plan to maintain this diet forever?

If not, from my knowledge and experience, you are only losing weight temporarily.
The thing with dieting is, it's a quick fix. Maintaining a healthy, fit body has to do with a lifestyle change. Many who diet definitely lose weight and then they put it right back on which is why so many women in America yo yo diet. They go from one diet to the next losing weight but once the diet is over, they go right back to their old ways which immediately causes weight gain.
When you deprive your body of good food, whatever you end up consuming usually turns right to fat. This is because your body becomes confused. It doesn't get enough so whatever it does get takes the nutrients and stores the rest as fat to compensate for what it isn't getting.

    It was an obvious answer.

As previously mentioned, I made this thread before and someone mentioned a particular kind of exercise which can assist with this. I can't remember what to do exactly so I made this with the hopes of getting different tips and perhaps that IC member would come in and remind me. I will look into and til then, I will keep up with what I do now because it works for me.
