JR Smith to sign the biggest contract in China

Free-agent guard J.R. Smith is closing in on a deal that would make the him the highest-paid player in the history of the Chinese Basketball Association, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Smith, whose deal with the Denver Nuggets expired in the offseason, would make more than $3 million in 2011-12—but if the NBA lockout is resolved in time to save the season, he'll be unable to return to the NBA, under the league's rules.

Smith, who turns 26 Friday, has averaged 12.5 points per game in his seven-year NBA career.

Wilson Chandler, also one of the Nuggets' free agents, and Earl Clark have already signed deals with the CBA, and several other plays have said they're considering the jump.
