If I would've told you 5 years ago that a RB was gonna decommit from OU and consider SC what would you have said??
From where? If the kid is from a state closer to SCar, I would believe it. The most difficult thing to do in recruiting is steal a kid from his home region.
Now if was from texas or Oklahoma, Arkansas, etc. Then I would be surprised. lol.
Picking programs is deeper than "which program is better".
I can almost guarantee this had more to do with being able to play right away and not having to "earn" anything.
Stoops is notorious for treating top recruits like walk-ons before AND after they join the team.
Some like that approach, some can't handle it.
Like Tashard Choice, the pride of Thomasville, GA...
He came to Oklahoma thinking he was just gon' automatically get carries for some strange reason. He had to redshirt his first year 'cause Renaldo Works and Kejuan Jones had shit on lock. And then this kid came to town...
Word in Norman is that he thought he deserved a "better shot" at playing time over Adrian Peterson and that he was better than Kejuan and Renaldo (mind you, Renaldo was a legend by then) just because he was hot shit in SEC country.
Long story short, he went home to Georgia Tech with some "I wanna be closer to my sick momma" excuse, and he eventually got his roster spot snatched by a Oklahoma native...
Lol @ "The Bryant Bidding War". Auburn got that long money. Nobody gonna outbid them when they want someone.
Sometimes I feel like Stoops is too clean...
...Then i remember the late 90s experience. lol.
But like I said before, Stoops has no business pulling the kind of outer region recruits that he does. So every time we get a top commit out-of-region (especially as early as GB) I don't count on'em until I see'em with them vowels on their helmet.
I learned that lesson the hard way when he almost pulled off the Julio Jones heist.
Nothing wrong with being too clean. You do NOT want to go down that 90's road again, lol. That's what I am actually glad Spurrier runs a clean program. I rather lose a few "5 Star Recruits" than get involved in some money exchanging.
And I'm not real big on the whole "stars" deal but that's just the way it is today. Some great players have been 3 "stars. You just never know. Although, pulling in 4 and 5 stars is great for your program and future recruits nowadays. These youngins pay attention to what programs are pulling in the "stars".
Green moved his desicion up from end of season to 2the weeks from now. I knew bryant would flip he said he wanted to play with out top talent and 5 stars. Obviously our class fufills that so he got intrested. Same with green.
Niggas gonna hate...must be the mustache effect.... gonna be a special season

Real shit
Recruiting rankings ain't shit but game tape and camp performances. I look at who else offers him more than I do the actual stars cause a 3* star can turn into a AA with the right coaching
Word, if I'm not mistaken, Frank Beamer rarely gets the top tier players that these recruiting services gush over.
This. One of the reasons I have alot of respect for him. Michael Vick was third or fourth most talked about high school QB in virginia in the 90s when Beamer scooped him (the top three were Ronald Curry, Aaron Brooks and Allen Iverson -- Yes, THAT Allen Iverson. lol.)
Some coaches and programs make their players, others -- the players make them.
Feels good knowing OU can turn anything that's above a two-star into a all american.
JohnMusso22 July 30, 2012 12:45 pmYou mean Arkie State doesn't have the same drug testing process at Awebrin? Imgaine that. Two years at auburn and he never missed a game yet he told the world(under oath) that he did spice and other drugs his entire 2 years at thug U!!!! Can't wait for Mikey to sell his story to the media. You can bet the folks in the auburn AD complex are worried.

I've seen it
I've seen 3-stars turn into All-time college greats, Heisman Winners, #1 picks, NFL rookies of the year, and future 1st round picks....
Rated 3-star receiver...
3-star QB...
Pop Quiz, one of these guys was barely a 3-star...
I've even seen Walk-ons turn into phenoms...
Mark Bradley. From walk-on to Second Round pick in the NFL.
marvin because his twitter was the cause of the football team being brought down....and maybe now the bball team. and because he was not a good football player.
curry was decent, even for unc standards. but just had too much hype

I remember seeing an interview in Vick's redshirt freshman year (when he took them to the NCG) where Beamer was asked why he hardly recruited Curry. It was early in the year and he said some shit like "you'll see".
That 4th chin he got was turning red, so I knew he was on to something. lol
Shout to tommy t, dominated the sec west last decade with 3 stars and juco's. Check the resume.....good luck at texas tech....he will end up @ maimi or Tennessee which by the way i got winning the east.
