lyrics are subjective... big had lyrics for days and a better flow that Jay... The fact Jayz has used line after line his his material over the years tells the story... Jay gets the benefit of living longer and slowing down his flow and honing his craft over the years... Big was what 25 when he died? anyway its not a argument either of us will win so agree to disagree

Biggie gets the benefit of the doubt of living off death and this not having to deal with falling off and longevity. For all we know Biggie could be like all them 90's niggas who aren't relevant today (Wu
Its funny because i'm on the West Coast and i always ask people what do they think of jay-z and i always get the same answer that he is overrated and that nas is better lol.

Plus the casual hip hop fan isn't worried about word play or double etendres. Most of them probably don't even know what it is.

Most of the people who i've ran across who say Jay-z is wack are the same people who say Lupe is wack, they are too fucking dumb to listen to shit that's below the surface (the subtle wordplay, metaphors, dual meaning). I hit em up with the meaning of songs and they hit me with that "awe i never got that line". Lets be real most west coast rappers aren't great lyricst or that nice beyond Ras Kass, it's just like southern rap fans. They listen to beats first, with the back drop of simple lyrics and storytelling.

I'll take a Lupe, Jay, Jay E, Pharoahe Monche, etc over any straight forward lyricist anyday.

I'm talking about str8 lyricism. Jay >>> all the people you named.
If you said Nas >>> Jay I could understand it, but I'd disagree.
Name someone who masters the double entendre better than Jay?

lol @ not being better than Ghostface, white folks love Wu-Tang

    Black people don't?

yeah we do,but every white dude i know that likes rap loooooves Ghostface,i think Ghost is dope but i just don't see him

as a top 5 or 10 emcee,he is great though.

I was wit you until you said better than Big

No biggie = no jigga just like no jordan = no kobe. You cant be better than the person you copied your style from and emulated

Nobody can see hov period when he zones out

I don't think he stole his style though. I think they are both from Brooklyn so it's easy to say that he stole his style, but really Jay was always way above BIG lyrically.

Not only did he steal his style, he stole his lines.

Lol see that makes me laugh people always want to throw around that oh there to dumb to understand, thats far from it IMHO.

I'm not disagreeing with you about the west coast rappers but there music is relatable to a lot of people.

Don't get me wrong i don't think Jay-Z is whack by an means but his catalog is overrated.

niggas say Pac and BIG cuz its the thing to say
just like most niggas will say Jordan the best or Kobe
niggas need to get their own thoughts cuz its becoming cliche to say Jay, Nas, Pac, BIG, Em, or Wayne are the best
there's no love for people who craft heartfelt songs like Lil Boosie.
There's no love for the underground either

LMFAO at Ice Cube and Face having better writing skills than any of those dudes i listed (maybe Jay E). It's much harder to execute a concept and song writing while maintaining top shelf lyricism than writing some basic shit. C'mon with this shit man.. If you talking Reasonable Doubt Jay.. Jay will tell you himself..

"I gave you prophecy on my first joint.. And yall all lamed out.. Didnt really appreciate it.. Till the second one came out..."

All you young fucks and revisionist historians.. No matter how hard you try will not be able to erase the impact of Big and Pac.. No matter what Jay does.. Even when he is dead and gone.. He will not be better than Big and Pac.. It is what it is.. Accept it as truth/fact and keep it moving..

Big and Pac dropped albums that changed the direction of the game and how other niggaz made music.. And the effects of those albums linger on... Hov just grabbed the batton from them niggaz when they passed on and ran with it... Alpha and Omega.. This is like saying Jackie Chan is a better martial artist then Bruce Lee..

    Cut the fuckeries..

Cube and Face appealed to basic niggas, same for Pac. They weren't and aren't technicians to me, to me dudes like Nas, Jay, Lupe, etc push thought and maximize their words. To use it in a analogy you will understand, Jay/Nas/Lupe,etc are like painters who use all the paint colors on a palette, dudes like Cube/Face stick to 3-4 colors.

Regardless as I mentioned before Face and Cube arent the lyrical technicians as Nas or Jay yet to me made better music thats speaked on real shit and doesnt coming off as some forced wannabe intellectual like how Nas can come across and how Jay rarely touches on.

Lupe being talked in the same sentence as Cube or Face is blasephmy to me and I prefer lyrical dudes to Me Lupe aint that nice compared to other lyricist in hiphop.

I can easily say Lupe appealed to Internet Nerds, Jay-z to fake niggas who front like they hustlers turned ballers, and Nas to fake intellectuals....

No other nigga has done it like Jay because of the longevity.. But c'mon Big and Pac?... Them niggaz was going Diamond and shit.. Classic Albums.. Ground breaking material.. You cannot just overlook that cuz it happened 20 years ago..

Maybe I am living in the past.. I dont know.. But to this day.. Life After Death is one of the only Albums that I can play straight through... And I am a day 1 Jay Z fan.. I knew about Jay early because DJ Chubby Chub from Original Flavor is from my block.. But as good as Jay has been and as consistent as he has been.. He hasnt made an album better than Life After Death in my opinion.. And thats not a Knock on Jay.. The only person with an album up there is Pac.. With All Eyez On Me...

If Big was alive today.. He would still run the game because he had vision and talent.. A lot of the shit that Jay ended up doing were things that Biggie planned on doing.. Jay and Big spoke every damn day.. They were thick as thieves..

Hence me sayin Jay took the baton and ran with it..

Lupe Fiasco has 3 gold albums, i hate to burst your bubble but he is more relevant than Cube and Face. If you sell more than 500k albums you are appealing to more than internet nerds.

We werent at Least I wasnt talking about relevancy. The point remains Jay-z in his Prime is not the best and while Cube and Face not the super lyrical MC still made better albums, greater impact on hiphop and songs that universally hailed as classics Lupe cant say the same. Get over it.
