Just to be fair i formed this question from what was said on the end of this video i give credit where credit is do thanks D.Respect because his right there are abunch of great artist on the net waiting to be discovered who have mainstream or almost mainstream level success on the net just waiting to be shown to the world maybe they can bridge the gap that seperates mainstream and underground

Maybe, but it comes down to dollars at the end of the day. Slaughterhouse had more internet buzz than anybody a year ago, but their album went wood. Teens and females are the main ones buyin albums and goin to shows. Until that changes, the underground is gonna stay underground.

this is the only true cat i know who has talent and gets naturally alot of internet views strictly off his talent ... hopsin and alot of these so called other internet up comers (soulja boy) had marketing money$$$$$ spent on them locally / regionally to really help thier online presence .................

hes already doing it then ????????? ijs the only feat any indy artist can do to show thier worth and that thier the future of how the music business will work ... they have to move units like a major ... indy artist been getting play from the street and getting thier indy video played on major networks word to E40, Master P, shit early rocafella, early cash money, tech n9ne, insane clown pose etc .... the major still has that upper hand ... like right now i know they are blowing up mac millers phone telling him all the $$$$$ and how much more records he can sell with them ..... doing 300k is great indy wise but its nothing new ... once an indy can do plat numbers or anything very close to that indys will be on another level and could very well crush the majors and mainstream as far as hip hop goes ...

@antarticp I just thought of something people always talk about selling albums, but alot of artist drop albums on itunes&they do numbers. doesnt that count for anything cause your not gonna find futures album pluto in target or walmart but it is on itunes.

Hip hop started w/ no boundaries or genres.Def Jam made millions off of Mainstream/underground acts. There was a time when being dope made you sale, but even then you had your 1 hit wonders, they just weren't respected.

The net has fragmented music to the point that anybody who can get a buzz can at least have a niche market

We may see more indie artists with small empires than major artists pushed the old ways, but simple entertainment will always make more than artistic entertainment as a whole, because there are more bad artists than good ones in any field

it def counts!!!! honestly i think the artist that will give majors and mainstream a run for thier money will use the internet as thier primary source of distribution

very very true mane the internet is a gift and a curse ... granted it gives alot of folks who dont have 9to5 oppurtunites .... the oppurtunity to make $$$$ and alot of it @ that ... and it gives the oppurtunity to the ones who dont have access to the industry a la NY or ATL or even Cali ..... a kid out in birmingham, AL can use the internet to get exposure and blow a la SOULJA Boy .....

I think the truly great rappers are the ones who walk the lines of commercial success and underground respect. That's why the Nas, Pac's, Bigs, Kanye's, Jay-z are far and few, they transcend both realms.

I also think the reason why most underground artist are underground is because they don't know how to make hits without it sounding forced. They tend to be limited just like how some mainstream cats are limited, be it by their skillset or their fanbase and what is expected from them. You have artist who's fans are quick to call them sell outs when they do something different outside the box. Once you get that label underground it's like a death sentence.
