    lol @ the gaming one

The Beavis and ButtHead one is cool.
  • I'ma tell you the problem with the PSVita.

    The problem is phones. Seriously.

The PSP wasn't never as popular as it was cause of games. I mean don't get me wrong, It has good games for it, but it was so popular cause it was one of the first of its kind back in 2005. The thing did movies, music, and games in your pocket for a reasonable price...that's why people bought the thing. There's great games on the PSP, but there was never a KILLER APP...Something that made you HAD to have a PSP....and what complicated that is that some of the PSP's best games eventually got released on PS2 cheaper, so we had a reason to wait.

Fast forward to 2012 and You got the PSVita....basically a more powerful PSP.....and it's tanking. Why?......

It's cause we got phones that does the same shit this does and better
    .
And you could say the same thing applies to 3DS....but...You can't play Mario, Zelda, Metroid, or Kid Icarus on a phone...and likewise you can't play some of Sony's exclusives on a phone but apparently they need something else, cause Nathan Drake had a joint out DAY 1 and it ain't moving units.

The PSVita has moved 1.8m WORLDWIDE since it dropped....That's WORLDWIDE.

Sony needs to do something or they gonna be blowing them shits out at Big Lots 32X style in a couple months.

Sony’s market valuation nearly six times lower than in 2000.
by Colin Moriarty MAY 11, 2012

Sony’s stock has plummeted precipitously according to a report from Bloomberg. Sony’s “market value” is now lower than it’s ever been since the summer of 1980.

The current market value of the company is $17.5 billion. The company’s market value in the year 2000 was more than $100 billion. Sony’s stock dropped 6.4 percent after its fiscal year 2011 financials came out. Sony’s “stock declined 18 percent this year, extending the 53 percent drop last year,” Bloomberg notes.

Bloomberg also confirms earlier reports out of Japan that Sony intends on laying off six percent of its worldwide workforce, amounting to 10,000 people.

    Wow.

If you're quoting an article, why cut out certain parts?

Poor TV Sales Send Sony’s Stock to 31-Year Low
Sony’s market valuation nearly six times lower than in 2000.

    May 11, 2012

Due to “forecasting earnings that missed estimates because of a failure to end losses from TVs,” Sony’s stock has plummeted precipitously according to a report from Bloomberg.

Sony’s market struggles are almost entirely due to its ailing television division, with “investors remain[ing] skeptical about predictions for returning to profit this year.” Sony expects its television sales to continue its downward trend another 11 percent in 2012.

However, Sony does expect to post an overall profit this fiscal year “after four consecutive years of losses.” Predicted profits are in the range of $37 million.

Bloomberg also confirms earlier reports out of Japan that Sony intends on laying off six percent of its worldwide workforce, amounting to 10,000 people.

LOL. Exactly. Talking about I edited the article? LOL...ok..did I leave out the part where Sony’s “market value” is now lower than it’s ever been since the summer of 1980? Did I leave out the 10,000 layoffs? Oh, I left out TV's so umad? Cause all PS3 stanboys wanna blame all of Sony's troubles on TV's. Except, peep the thread title...and low market value effects the entire company, not just TV's. LOL!

    @ the bolded

Actually no it doesn't. The only thing it might affect are stock options and the only time CEOs & execs exercise them is when their stock gets dirt cheap (ironically enough). Market value is the price of the business the market values it at. You can be a company like Wells Fargo or Goldman Sachs that's currently selling below it's market value for the past 3 years has made more money (and record amounts) than all the major banks in the most dire times.

Market value has no impact on the internal operations or underlying business.

Sony may soon go the way of Sega. This next generation of consoles will either make or break them.

Their gaming division is looking financially weak. PS3 been out for nearly 6 years now and it is still struggling to make a profit. Compared to where they were in the PS2 era, they took a massive beating units sales wise. PS2 in 2006 sold damn near 120 million units. PS3 only sold around half. How is that not a fall off?

That's right. Smartphones are the fucking death of Handheld Consoles. Its your phone. It goes with you. I love my DS but only the corniest nerd nigga alive is taking it with him in a nightclub lol. Its funny, this shit is killin Nintendo too and the loss of dat Gameboy paper really could wrap it ALL up for them, but you're right. The Vita's target audience are perfectly happy with their um, thousands of great iOS and Android games. Niggas who want new Pokemon, Mario, Zelda WANT NEW POKEMON, MARIO, ZELDA, ETC. and look at those phone games like its Solitaire. Advantage....Nintendo.

They need to stop with that handheld bullshit and the tv's. I used to own a Bravia and I hated it, I was at the Sony store the other day trying out the 3d head goggles they have and that was a piece of shit too, the 60 inch screen it was supposed to replicate didn't really feel that way and the 3d was barely noticeable. The worst part of it all is that they were selling it for around $1300, GTFOH!!!!

PS will always have a loyal fan base, and the first party developers are what's keeping them ahead of other consoles in terms of creativity. The movie division is a toss up, we'll have to see what Spider-man does before knowing whether or not it would be a good idea for them to sell that off.

this is a good point, but i think the ps3 did what they wanted as far as blu ray goes. blu ray sales are supposedly better than dvd sales were this far into its lifespan

Disagree. At the time the PS3 dropped, BR was new and the PS3 was one of the cheapest BR players you could get. Now BR players cost $ 50 so it's not an advantage anymore.

I would disagree, but regardless, my point is Sony's market value is Sony's market value. Period. Not just their "TV's department market value"...while the gaming division has some other magical market value. The Sony stans want to believe that Sony's situation is based solely on their TV's when the whole company, including gaming, is doing poorly. Whens the last time you saw somebody with a Walkman? LOL.
