The first time you contract either from an under cooked steak, hit us up and let us know how well that went for you. Personally, the two times I got sick from medium rare steaks were enough for me (both salmonella). It's been well done for the last 24 years and I have no regrets.

oh yeah, as with the many other times this topic has come up, if you're at a restaurant and your well done steak is tough, never go back to that spot. A good restaurant can cook up a well done steak to where it's tender and juicy. Stop eating steak at Denny's.

Steak is E Coli free. Thats where people are miseducated. You can barely cook a steak and it'll still be safe as any other properly cooked poultry. It's not the same as ground beef, chicken, etc.


Don't you think the health department wouldve been on this by now and not allow restaurants to "undercook" steak?

The health department of many states strongly urges you to get your steaks well done. In NYC alone, serving medium rare beef is a health code violation. Many restaurants even have signs posted with a warning about eating undercooked meats.

ground beef and steak are totally different. They come from different parts of the cow. Ground beef has to be cooked all the way through to kill off the E-coli while steak is cut from a part of the cow that doesnt have ecoli. And if it did, it would be on the surface which is why the outside of the steak is always cooked.

... and I still got salmonella from it, and it's still -technically- illegal to serve a medium rare steak in NYC (though you won't have a problem finding one). Besides, I'm not talking about ground beef, I'm talking steak.

I've been to restaurants where a person in my group orders a medium or medium rare steak and the waiter will launch into a spiel about how the health department recommends against eating undercooked steaks and recommends well done.
