rakim impact on hip hop will last forever but i grew up in that era. i was a late teen back then and for me i feel some kinda way that he wouldnt engage kane in a full battle. kane was with it and ra didnt want it. a couple of jabs here and there but he would not get on stage and battle kane. i never forgave him for that. kane was my fav and i think he deserved a shot at the crown.

To me, if you drew up the perfect emcee on paper, and what traits he might have, you'd probably come up with someone like Rakim. He has it all: an autopilot flow, a phantom voice, and a supreme gift with words and rhyme structuring. Jay-Z once called himself the Michael Jordan of rap. To me, Ra holds that title. Every B-ball player, no matter how cocky they were, had to admit Jordan was better than them, and tried to emulate him. The same way other players looked at M.J., that's the same way other rappers look at Rakim.
