Yes he played a gay suicidal professor in Little Miss Sunshine and he's was severely depressed for the large majority of the film, even though the film turned comedy towards the end.

Dan in Real Life is also drama/comedy that I enjoyed.

Crazy Stupid Love is drama comedy, where he plays an almost-divorcee but aside from the ending scenes, it's pretty heavy on the drama.

Steve surprised me with LMS and he surprised me again with CSL. He's underrated as a dramatic actor. Probably because his most popular films are all comedies but don't sleep on the ones here^^^.
