SPINOFF SEQUEL: Why Is "Nigga" taken out of Context? IS IT AS BLACK AND WHITE AS IT SEEMS?

Why? I understand the history of the word nigga and before anyone says any dumb shit, I'm 100% NEGRO. I just dont understand how people make it as black and white as:

if you're black, you can say nigga.
if you're another race, you cant say nigga.

what if these people of another race grew up in the SAME conditions & environment as you? what does race really mean at that level? is there no sense of context as to the intentions of the person SAYING the word?

also, why do you guys make it seem like nigga is the straw that broke the camels back as far as racial slurs go? these days, nigga has been thrown around so frequently by us in music, movies and whatever the fuck else, that it definitely doesnt have the same connotation as it did 50 yet alone 30 years ago. i mean, you'd think that the more "available" something is, the cheaper it is, right?

let a person say something like moon cricket, sambo, spear chucker, or coon....THATS HOW I KNOW ITS REAL. the word "nigga", IN MY PERSONAL OPINION, aint as powerful as those words because the sayer of these words have no other intention but to be racist.

but yall tripping over a white person saying "niggas in paris", which for the millionth time is the NAME OF A FUCKING SONG.

    Nigga....

Nigga isn't some casual shit to me. Gods act like words don't have power but they do. I reserve calling someone a nigga for when they do some ignorant shit, I treat the word like an insult.

However, I try not to get too caught up on it like I did in the past because that word by itself is not the source of our
predicament it is a symptom. Fix the condition, nigga becomes obsolete terminology. It's why back in the day it was nigga this nigga that, now I consciously call by brothas and sistas god and I just save nigga for white folks.

You should see the goddamn look on their face shit is priceless, especially in mixed company.

    As is this topic.

    No offense Eye.

trust, i know its played. im just curious to see what people say this time.

  • my thing is, when was it ever in proper context? is the term itself a bad word, or does the negative connotation come from the negative view/treatment of black people associated with its origin?

    Ahhh.. young "NIGGAS"

    lol context...

No one elses "WORD" is pimped and used by others or has a loaded history that we do here..
Until mofos walk around and say

My chink/gook,Ginny, or whatever other racist identifier then.... keep that shit to the left

Ill never give anyone license or feel good about someone else saying nigga.. thats not black i mean im not gonna come to blows with some non negro saying it.. but theyll get the you know you look like an idiot look..

Like is said niggas are too assimilated and accepting of certain things..

I dont give a fuck if white mike was raised by a pack of niggas.. i wont refer to him as "My nigga" and give him the "honor" of being called that.. i dont give a fuck if hes been eating hotsauce and pig feet since he was 3,loves fried chicken, has a sister name keisha, and doesnt kiss his dog in the mouth and has a brother name jamal..eats bean pies, went to the million man march,, listens to 50 cent and has cornrows

Context is always important. It can make the difference between it being offensive or not. I agree that it has been thrown around so much casually that it doesn't even have the same sting as it did when I was growing up. If rap music didn't do anything else, it made the word nigga damn near obsolete in the realm of insults. That doesn't mean I care to hear it come out a white person's mouth cause we'll never be that cool. At the same time, those other words ( coon, sambo, etc ) are more offensive to me from a racial standpoint. Ain't much to put into context if you get called a jungle bunny or tar baby ( no Kat ). Offensive or not though....bottom line...they're all just words. Words only have power if you give them power. Equal rights & opportunities >>> name calling.

A good question would be .....

Are you just as offended when a black person saids " You know what Kanye....You's a f*ckin N*gger! "
(I've seen this quite a bit on the internets.. by so called black people.)

as opposed to a white person who saids it naively in hopes of making a connection. In this situation I view it as someone trying to use a nickname for me that only family uses. I'm not about to throw tables and chairs around...
just dont say that shyt... I dont know you well enough to give you the benefit of the doubt even if your intentions are sincere.

and outside of that, i think theres a difference between calling someone a nigga and CALLING someone a nigga, if that makes sense.

this aint about assimilation. this is about a word that has NO POWER TO ME. a white person doesnt hafta call me a nigga for them to be racist as FUCK...and thats really what i'm trying to say.

I rarely say the word, and my elders definitely don't approve of it. It's the respect of what my people went through BECAUSE OF THEIR SKIN COLOR that refrains me from saying the word.

Also, I don't give a fuck what race you are, if you say it around my mom, dad, auntie, uncle etc. you will get checked. I know for a fact that word makes them uncomfortable, so think about that before you go around saying the shit because some wackass low-life rapper has the nerve to say it 100+ times in his songs. Have some respect for yourself and them.

..But at the same time, if you're black and you say it around your peers, I have no problem. I may look at you as a mentally weaker individual, but I not going to check you a million times in a day because you use the N-word recklessly. However, if you're a non black guy and you say the word around me, YOU WILL GET CHECKED. I don't give a fuck if you're reciting a song, I don't give a fuck if these other weak-minded black people let you say it, you can't say it around me, because it makes me uncomfortable and it's giving you a false sense of security.

And you clowns need to understand that it's not about the struggle of class. It was about the struggle of racial tension. This slavery shit happened to BLACK people and BLACK people only. Not people who lived in the same neighborhoods as us during the time.

Yeah.. Natives were slaves...until they ran out of them.

funny thing about history is there were Europeans who enjoyed the native American way of life.. Shyt was simple and easy.. just farm.. chill in relax.. ect

but the crazy group of rape-and-pillage Europeans would end up war-ing with Native Tribes and Native Villagers... And the Whites who resided in those villages were disgusted to have to leave.... upon eventual defeat.

In the United States bruh, and yes you're weak-minded if you say the N-word all the time.

You need to get out in the real world, and get out of the ghetto. The N-word is still EXTREMELY offensive to our parents, and their parents who understand what really happened. Shit, I know people in their early 20's who will quickly check you on some, "I'm nobody's N-word" shit. Real talk, the only people who use the N-word all the time are the street dudes who are already lost in one way or another. The guys who think life is about fucking as many girls as you can etc. Other than that no one else really uses the word like that.

Y'all have to stop generalizing black people. We do not fuck with the N-word like that, and we don't all mess with rap music. Most of the full adults abandoned rap music, and a lot of the young adults who are going somewhere feel out of touch with the music we have now. You have to understand that these rappers are not our leaders. Real people see them for what they are, professional entertainers.

I live in VA Beach and I'm FAR from having "lost my way" nor do i live in the ghetto. lol. just stop. all that shit you said was irrelevant...cuz i'm the opposite of ALL those things you said and i say nigga all the time because i understand that IN 2012, there are bigger ISSUES (atleast to me) than whether someone chooses to say the word "nigga" or not....especially with benign intent.

its like if you were to say some wack shit, and i say "yo, u gay for that". Does this mean you fuck men? No. CONTEXTUALLY, it just meant you were being wack.
