Is being lyrical or viewed as lyrical a detriment to a rap artist in 2012..yes or no?

For years NYC or East Coast was viewed as hating on the South and West.. but with the South dominating the mainstream since 2004 (give or take year ) are they now doing the same thing they once accused NYC of doing?

Why do fans still use the same lame ass excuse "no one wants to hear Nas in the club" when talking down on conscious or lyrical hiphop but yet 9 out 10 songs being played in the club, on radio and video Channels deal with the same commercial bullshit...
