Police officer accused of stealing from lost wallet
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

When a young boy found a wallet inside the restroom of Cobb County bowling alley, he handed it to his aunt. That woman then gave the wallet to her husband.

Akii Myers, 36, resigned from his job as a DeKalb County police officer following his arrest in Cobb County.

But when that man, Akii Isaac Myers, got the wallet, he didn't try to find its owner, police said. Instead, he took $500 out and the owner's identification, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Myers then handed the cash to his wife before turning the wallet in to bowling alley employees, police said.

The July 29 act was caught on surveillance cameras at the bowling alley and Myers later confessed, the warrant states.

The story doesn't end there. Myers was a DeKalb County police officer when he allegedly stole a stranger's money. Cobb investigators informed DeKalb County police about the theft investigation on Aug. 1, according to a spokeswoman for DeKalb police. The following day, Myers resigned from the department.

"Myers was off duty and on military leave from the department when the alleged incident occurred," DeKalb police told Channel 2 Action News.

Myers, of Marietta, turned himself in Aug. 3 and was charged with theft by taking, a misdemeanor, Cobb County jail records show. He was released the following day after posting $1,000 bond.

On Monday, an arrest warrant was secured for Myers's wife, Laprencilla Malisa Myers, on the same charge of theft by taking. She had not been arrested late Thursday evening.
