I was in Iraq when this dropped... it was pretty dope... too much bs on it to give it the classic nod... pplus "Hello Brooklyn ft Lil Wayne"... no way bruh...
smh of course, this is the IC....where Jay is considered a horrible rapper
Let me say this though, the only track on there that might not make this a classic is Hello Brooklyn. Idk why the hell Jigga put Wayne on a track for a BK song. That didn't make sense to me at all

I never understood that song. Why were the voices so low on that? Why did it have Lil Wayne on it if it was an ode the Brooklyn?

Cosign 100%.. but I'm sure Jay just put Wayne on there because he was real popular at the time..

The reason why Wayne was on Hello Brooklyn because it was his song first and Jay heard it. Not because he is popular, Jay don't need Wayne to get buzz.
I hated it initially cuz of the drop off lyrically by Jay. "Off the wall like Mike, these other cats is Tito"... then had the nerve to explain it. Couldn't let shit like that ride. Plus there were better coke rap albums before and after it. But after a while the production and stories sank in. Plus the whole influence factor wasn't there, everything done on that album was done before it, and better. Hell, about a year before it Prodigy came out with Return of the Mac with similar production.
American Gangster is a more cohesive album than any other Jay-z album, but i don't feel like it has memorable classics like RD, Blueprint, and BA. If that make sense!

Cuz it was a concept album, it was more fluid front to back. But it seemed like Jay was distracted compared to his other albums where he locks in on it. This will always feel like a side project to me, especially since it was inspired by the movie.
