The Chinese government has approved the final design for a massive planned city scheduled for construction along the rim of a 3.85 kilometer (2.4 mile) lake. Upon completion, Meixi Lake City will provide home to over 180,000 inhabitants and occupy a space that's 120 million square feet in size.

The design, which was developed by international architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), will provide residents with neighborhoods for living, recreation, working, culture, and entertainment.

According to KPF, their design for the Meixi Lake master plan "seeks to establish a paradigm of man living in balance with nature."

They write: "A densely concentrated urban plan, packed with a full variety of functions and building types, is integrated with mountains, lakes, parks and canals, resulting in an environment which promotes both health and prosperity."

"As a new center within the larger metropolitan area of Changsha, Meixi proposes to offer a new model for the future of the Chinese city."

"Advanced environmental engineering, pedestrian planning, cluster zoning, and garden integration, are all made part of a holistic strategy of design in this healthy city."

Of course, we'd be remiss not to mention that Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil, was also a planned city.

Masdar City (Arabic: مدينة مصدر‎, Madīnat Maṣdar, literally Source City[1]) is a project in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Its core is a planned city, which is being built by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, a subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, with the majority of seed capital provided by the government of Abu Dhabi.[2][3] Designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners, the city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology and will be a car free city. The city is being constructed 17 kilometres (11 mi) east-south-east of the city of Abu Dhabi, beside Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Masdar City will host the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).[4][5] The city is designed to be a hub for cleantech companies. Its first tenant is the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, which has been operating in the city since it moved into its campus in September 2010.[6][7][8] The city as a whole was originally intended to be completed by 2016 but that date has now been pushed back to 2025.[9]

i have been to china....and guess what...they have the manpower to build it and the cheap labor to do it fast. I bet it will be up in a matter of a few years.

I think you guys under estimate how china builds...

now the problem is...who is going to live in this city and who can afford to and how will they control transportation.
I will move there when it is complete

Yeah, it will be up and running in 5 years and finished in 10 years. Those japanese guy builders only took a week what would have taken 4 weeks in america. The labor force is powerful over there and they have enough people to do it as well.

the labor force is strong but grossly underpaid....trust me its just a matter of time.
