10 years ago when dipset was dissing jay-z sayiing he old ass hell pushing 40 and irrevelant. Boy did things make a turnaround, now they are pretty much the (nearing) 40 yr old irrevelant rappers who are lost and forgotten. Asap rocky is harlems flag carrier now. This goes to show you in hip hop u can only be new for so long.

Look at soulja boy for example, he was the new guy back in 07 with crank day. Now today hes the old dude(hes only 22 but hes had a pretty long career for a one hit wonder) who everyone wants to shut up and go.

    people always say "rolling stones" and i'm sure your overall point is correct in that rock bands may be able to last longer, and yes the kids of today still like rollingstones but a lot of the people at those shows are middle aged folks, not young kids.

    it's harder for a rapper to do that because once people get to a certain age they tend to leave rap alone because it inherently is a young man's game. I mean a bunch of old folks can go to a rolling stone concert and sing paint it black and reminiesce on when they were young, but not to many ppl 10 years from now will be in thei 40s or 50s at some lil john concert dropping it down and getting they eagle on, or shoving each other when ruff ryder anthem comes on. I certainly would not want to see a bunch of old middle aged grandmas getting they freak on to some 2 live crew shit.

    it aint about competing, it's about making music because they have a love for it, plus its good to give the fans new material.

If anything blame these rappers like Lil Jon that made music that no one would want to pay to see him perform 10-15 + years later.

    Naughty By Nature, Salt N Papper, Rakim, BDK, etc all tour and I'm sure the majority of the people going to the shows are 40-50 year olds.

You really think the majority of the people at a Naughty, Salt-N-Pepa, Rakim, BDK etc show are 40-50 y/o? Can't be serious. The majority are in their 20s & around 30 at most. The majority of them are basically a few youngins who genuinely are fans of the culture & are heads, same cats listening to Wu, Mos Def, Nas, MF Doom etc.

    Most of hip-hop consumers are party heads & trend chasers. They only fuck with songs that have some what of a popularity cuz alot of them aren't really fans like that. Their the ones who'll sag their pants & wear 10 XXL tees if it's hot & if women think it's cool & then switch up & diss it once skinny jeans & tight shirts starts to pop. The ones who'll act thugged out if a hardcore rapper is popular & especially if he's liked by females & act like a queer if a queer rapper pops & females fuck with him the next week.

    The majority of consumers of music period are young people. Labels are always trying to appeal to young audiences. Rock just doesn't age-hate the way hip-hop does. In the hip-hop world 35 is "old" aint shit old about a nigga that's not even 40.

    Green Day's lead singer is 40....yes he's older than Nas. I don't see white folks saying Green Day need to get the fuck on though. No doubt music period is a young person's game but the older rappers and bands have just as much to offer, hell in some cases more to offer than a young audience.

    Yes the majority ARE older cats in their lates 30's-40's and early 50's going to these hip hop shows, of course you'll have a fair amount of youngsters there too. When Naughty by Nature was in their prime (91-95these folks were in their 20's and 30's, so we're in 2013 now and you don't think these people still wouldn't pay to see their favorite group perform old hits like hip hop hooray, and OPP, and feel me flow etc?

    As for that second paragraph you must be speaking about these new hip hop fans.
