With the issue of gentrification, no one really talks about displacement it happens. After they are evicted as a result of higher rent, where do people go? When newspapers and the media talk about "growth", they don't consider the effect it has on Black people's lives and how they are not made for the better. I'm willing to be that there's a sizable homeless population of people because they have nowhere to go, but their concerns are silenced by cities who are trying to maintain a reputable image.

Fuck it, i'll be real... I was born and raised in Bed Stuy, moved away, and when i go back shit is mad different. Hipsters walking the streets and taking trains @ like 11 at night.

It bugs me when my co-workers discuss Brooklyn like its a young white person's Disney land these days. I remember it from the time when it was just recovering from the crack epidemic and the people that struggeled hard to keep the hood together were priced out by ppl who's parent's can pay rediculous prices for a 1 bedroom walk up POS.... When ppl here talk about Brooklyn, i turn my shit up extra loud so i don't give the screw face...

i don't begrudge anyone working hard and moving in, but they never really see the cost to the people who had roots there

That's a good point you raise. I'm not sure how the homeless population is affected by gentrification but I do know that in Jersey and Pennsylvania, changes in section 8 allow a lot of Nyers to move in

In a nutshell: Urban gentrification involves population migration as poor residents of a neighborhood are displaced. In a community undergoing gentrification, the average income increases and average family size decreases. This generally results in the displacement of the poorer, pre-gentrification residents, who are unable to pay increased rents, and property taxes, or afford real estate.

Real estate firms, developers, and individual homeowners and renters reinvest in neighborhoods that are run-down. They rehab houses, convert buildings into lofts, etc. It pushes poor people out and attracts upper middle class people to raise property value.
