the earth gets so many close calls with meteorites. those things start out in space the size of texas enter the earths atmosphere at a 45degree angle and burn up to the size of pebble. if seen a few whiz just feet above me its crazy. I remember one person commented on yahoo that the bugs from starship troopers aim was getting better when they had video footage of the last closest meteor.

A meteorite the size of Texas would be wrap for the planet. No if's, and's, or but's. One the size of a couple story building could burn down to the size of a pebble though. Anything larger than a couple stories though and you get the Siberian meteor of 1908 or worse.

today i heard they can only track %1 of meteors i space because the other 99% are so small like the one yesterday, but they still can do damage if they make it through the atmosphere
