I'm very late on this album. I had it on my old iPod but never gave it a full listen. finally found the cd in fye and copped it for 18 dollars. I say it was worth it. what's your thoughts on this album?
Fucking Classic. My first introduction to MF DOOM and i was hooked ever since. Been patiently waiting for Madvillainy 2. Im sick of all these rumors doom and lib start in interviews saying its almost done. Been like 6 years man.
I tried listening to MF Doom (I think it was Mmmm Food) but I can't fuck with it. Somebody post something from this album and maybe I'll check it out
I was the same... After I saw the Mos Def video I downloaded Mmmm Food and thought it was wack... But I kept listening over and over and finally saw the light... Same with Vik Vaughn... Danger Doom and the title cut...
You know what it was for me though, at least on some level?
I never checked for MF Doom a while ago. After some time i started checking it out and i love it. What changed was probably my palette. I've always been open to a variety of hip-hop but even more now.
These days? I go from Lost Boyz, to MF Doom, to 50 Cent, to Pun, to Rakim, to 2pac, to Jay-Z, to Fugees, to Black Star, to Canibus, to Eminem, to Wu-Tang, to Ruff Ryders, to WC, to Eightball & MJG, to CNN, to TDE, to Krit, to Dead Prez, to Bone, to Common, to Nipsey, to BDP, to Public Enemy, to Hieroglyphics, to Mac Mall and the list just goes on and on.
My point is once your palette's been "developed" it makes you appreciate certain music in a different way. If all you listen to or grown up listening to is a particular sound/type of rap everything outside of it is gonna sound foreign. That's why balance is important.
amazing album.....wouldnt call it a classic cus there are atleast two tunes i dont fuck with but definitley and album i love and still gets heavy rotation to this day
Even though MF Doom wasn't spitting on this track, that "Eye" joint was so fucking soulful...
btw, Madlib is severely underrated....I don't fuck with Talib Kweli, but this track is crazy
