I thought it was common knowledge that Gillie Da Kid was writing his shit in the past. Once that relationship died he had to start writing for himself.
With the release of Tha Carter 4 its increasingly obvious that this is true
smh at dumb ass niggas still thinking gillie wrote for wayne. gillie was birdmans writer and along with mikkey halsted he helped wayne develop a real flow.
One theory i have is that he switched up Ghostwriters. I don't know. I want to give Wayne credit, i want him to be dope but he's far too inconsistent as far as quality is concerned. He had flashes of greatness on C2 and features like Ja Rule's "Uh Oh" where he ripped Ja to pieces. I thought that he would have had time in jail to write some heat like that again, and i was honestly impressed by "6 foot 7 foot", which i thought was better than "A Millie", but the rest of C4 is underwhelming to say the least. Let's take the "Intro, Interlude, & Outro" for example; when Wayne did "Fly In, Carter II, Fly Out" he sounded hungry and vicious but on C4, even though he used the same format, he got ripped the pieces. He couldn't come up with one good verse to compete with Busta, Andre, Nas, Tech, Bun, & even Shyne. If that had been one song he would have been completely embarrassed on his own album.
He had almost a year to write hot music with a sober mind and C4 is all he has to show for it?? I wanted Wayne to be successful and lyrically gifted but he's actually getting worse. It's shameful. Maybe he's lazy. On C2 & C1 he was pretty much all on his own; the success of his label and himself depended on him making quality music. Well now that he has Drake and Nicki among others, he can afford to bullshit a little bit. I don't know what it is, but i can't make excuses for lackluster music and talent. He needs to step his game up. The so-called "Best Rapper Alive" gets ripped by everybody on his own album, and yet people still feel that he's GOAT. Busta Rhymes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wayne.

Sometime after Tha Carter II it seemed like he became a totally different person. He's one of the few rappers to drastically improve then get drastically worse than they were when they 1st started rapping. It's almost like he's a different person.
So wat do u think happened to him
I know that Mannie leaving Cash Money has lot to do with it but that can't be the only reason.
Nothing happened to Wayne. It's more or less people stepping out of the twilight zone and realizing that he wasn't "the best rapper alive". Weak punchlines, non sensical lines, and mediocre songwriting have always plagued Wayne's music. People just got caught up in all of the hype behind him becoming more of a technical MC which balooned into people thinking he was a Jay Z and Nas level lyricist.
Basically, every Wayne album since the first Carter suffers from everything people are complaining about on Carter IV. Now that he's more popular and the mainstream are on the bandwagon and are co-signing the mediocrity, the people that enjoyed the first two Carter albums dislike the more commercial, "artistic" last two Carter albums. It happened to DMX, 50 and now it's happening to Wayne. The only difference is, it seems to have not have affected Wayne's popularity.
