Rae def needs to step it up. He rhymes lazy and part of communication is sending a clear message. He's supposed to be a "verbal mic physician."

It may have been hard to muster up the proper energy with the death of family in the back of his head.

That stripped down slanguage style he uses is an acquired taste, my closest cousin is from Heartland Village, he talk just like them dudes.

Dude fuck outta here herb ass nigga, Supreme Clientelle and Liquid Swordz are in my top 10 albums, i probably have the most eclectic taste in music on this damn site. Ghost is great no boubt, Rae is dismisable to me, i would take Ghost,Meth,Gza,Deck,Rza, over him from the Wu. As for Rae, i just think his style sucks plain and simple, forcing 3 million syllables without no conjunction in your bars doesn't make you nice.

    Ghost > Rae

    we can all agree?

Definetly, Ghost has flow, presence, and style, something Rae is severly lacking to pull off that slang shit.
  • this aint sesame street son we get it

If niggas get it, then why do we keep having this topic? Also, why do people keep bringing up verses like that and acting like that's the only way Rae spits. How many examples do I need to give you before you shut this shit up. Let me take you through the years.
I grew up on the crime side, the New York Times side
    Staying alive was no jive
Had second hands, moms bounced on old man
So then we moved to Shaolin land
A young youth, yo rockin the gold tooth, 'Lo goose
Only way, I begin to gee off was drug loot
And let's start it like this son, rollin with this one
And that one, pullin out gats for fun
But it was just a dream for the teen, who was a fiend
    Started smokin woolies at sixteen
And running up in gates, and doing hits for high stakes
Making my way on fire escapes
No question I would speed, for cracks and weed
The combination made my eyes bleed
No question I would flow off, and try to get the dough off
Sticking up white boys on ball courts
My life got no better, same damn 'Lo sweater
Times is ruff and tuff like leather
Figured out I went the wrong route
So I got with a sick ass click and went all out
    Catchin keys from across seas
Rollin in MPV's, every week we made forty G's
Yo nigga respect mine, or anger the tech nine
Ch-chick-POW! Move from the gate now - Cream
Fake niggaz throw shit in they drinks
Club nights we snatch linx politic, Africans and chinks
While World of Sport niggaz snort coke by the seconds
Niggaz projects filled with fiends injectin
Morphine, the God seen more CREAM, and upstate
Cousin Reek, almost got hit with fourteen
Chill Pah, the God'll be a Star when you come home
Light bones and let you rock my 3G stone
So, see cousin, yo I was workin, cats I'm jerkin
And uptown these niggaz actin like they hurtin
    Keys twenty-four a brick
Columbians be on some bullshit, that's why Poppy got hit
Stay tuned, word up, I hope to see you in June
By the way, I seen your bitch, she was up in this cat's room
Skeyed up, weed the fuck up, to top it off
look beat up, with two crack fiends huggin your seed up
I took care of that, though, but don't worry bout it
I got your back though - Knowledge God
    Aiyyo,
Prosperity endangered so many of us
All the bullshitters got away with murder
That's why we can see who's real and who's fake
And who bit off the last nigga tape stole his state
Wake up we running outta plans
    The devil inside of him
    Tricknology is in one hand
    Future's so far to see
The present's how will it be
The past don't even ask just believe
    Looking in the dictionary
Trying to spell out hard words
    Define 'em and design 'em
    I shine and curve
Take this jewel in and conquer me
I blend it in wit ganja
Not for the babies it's a mind sponsor
From the 17 million God raised
    2 million lost slaved
19 million may we all praise
    So when we wake up
Let's straighten up and get it together
For real and keep all getting paper - Jury
    Shake them niggaz
Scary hours no money out, smash the Guinness Stout
Play the outfield, Lucille, switched cracks on shields
She's a rich fiend, sacrifice her fam, shift them niggaz
to Queens, Guess jeans she charged thirty-five beans
Hit the cell phone, regulate with well known tone
A Wally kingpin, who also slam and strike edition
Whattup, Corleone smoke the bone Tone phone me
Whattup he tried to slang there, address him with chrome only
Grady with the gray beard, transport for him
Rockin Nike at? Rastafarianburg, pipin that
Switchin Benzes, ten carat nigga with gold lenses
Frontin like he's sittin on a lump he's sittin on junk
You wanna pull a heist, draw guns and robberies
You wanna rock rep, step in yellow Wallabies
Names arraigned, the century fox, little glocks
Them niggaz with stocks, wail on your blocks
Rich lifestyle, spoiled like an ordinary white child
But right now, Son will still shine, shed light now
Breakdown, liquidate God, fuck it grab the nickel plate
Spencer for Hire, tension when we mention Dryer
He's a slave cop, behave pop
Blue suits who bay stop us blow that cat
at the Purple Haze spot - Cash Still Rules
High potency thai, smoke a bag of black
And feel the vibe, wanna be wise
We, form on a rising corner mean five
Laws in disguise, throw on your slides
Young niggas racist, smokers is basic
We seen the eyes, laying up playing the cut
What, stay in the truck, something told me duck
Folding me up, my shoulders struck
Out of luck, fuck the potters up
Fell on a daze like a Golotta snuff
Niggas tried to body me up
    I'm in the lobby bleeding
Niggas in the witness office probably eating
And sprinting and beefing, when they heard the shots
Called the precinct and seen barber nieces beasting
Niggas shot Shalar features and shots went through his Elisis,
    Bent the spinal cordless creatures
I'm gagging and flagging a cab down
Guess who in the Benz wagon, dragging my sound down
Macking it was Dale Breedy the greedy
    Caniving ass snake genie
Cop with a bikini will murder charge and benini
I'm feeling wheezy and drained from the cheeba
    Grieving ain't even looking decent
Seeing police niggas reaching - Hollow Bones

That's a pretty random sampling of Rae verses. Is the slang too much for ya'll to understand in those? Do you need me to bold the conjunctions and adjectives for ya'll? Just let me know since you dudes have such a hard time understandings simple shit and are intent on making it seem like Rae only raps one way.

I would agree with this for the most part, even though still like Rae. However, let's not act like it was always like this. Go back and listen to 36 Chambers, OB4CL, Ironman, or any of the earlier stuff and tell me Rae didn't have flow, presence, and style.
  • dog we understand it, and sometimes its completely dope

but other times its just bland and the direction of the verses goes nowhere

one last time WE UNDERSTAND IT

WU SLANG AINT NOTHIN NEW FAM

Dog, you really need to stop using the word "we" and go back and read some of these comments. There are people in here literally saying that his verses make no sense. That the stuff he says is just "gobbledee gook" (actual term used). I admit that a lot of Rae verses are stream of conciousness style, and I agree those are his weakest verses. That said, I can give you tons of story tracks where he has a central theme and stays on it perfectly. Cats come in here acting like everything he spits is just some undecipherable crap and that's not true.

And even the stream of conciousness style isn't that bad. I can understand why some people hate it, but to me it can be tight. It's like shorthand rap, he's delivering everything you need to know in a very succinct manner. There is value to that.

I'ma fan of Wu-Tang Clan but on some real shit a lot of times Raekwon and Ghostface would ramble aout some random shit that wouldn't even make sense prime example Its Yourz

Funny shit. You actually did come off like him too. I fail to see what's so wrong with flowing like that. It's not like what you said was incomprehensible. This shit may be unorthodox but what's the point of everyone rapping the same. I know ya'll niggas studied poetry in school. Ya'll act like every poet used the same rhyme scheme and poetic format.
  • Haha, I actually like that flow too.
It definately makes him unique and its nice to listen to

this is another hate thread from the ic's resident uncle tom. smh @ the faggot t/s and the cheerleaders through out this thread. you guys sound like monkeys saying you dont understand raekwon. the part that makes you look stupid is the fact if this was one of Jay Z signature bland lines you dudes would be scanning the internet back and forth trying to turn into a double entrede or metaphor but yet when u get a spitter who throwin jewels yall niggas want to put on ur dunce hats and sit in the back of the class on some scared to speak up shit. if you dont understand rae it sucks to be you. he's in incredible lyricist who paints his picture in unique ways. yall missing out on some grade a shit. but at least raekwon had the gall to even participate in the cipher for u lames to judge those lines that went over yall heads. i didnt see that big lipped faggot anywhere near. i saw kanye though and i saw eminem. Im still LMAO @ u niggas. you dont understand raekwon but you accept a nigga who says he dumbed down his music. i blame these 90s crackbaby mamas for givin birth to children with backbones. u dudes will fall for anything
  • Only slightly on a topic, but here's a nice lil joint from Twista f/ Rae. I guess niggas not gonna understand the lyrics in this one either. SMH Anyway Rae and Twista have some nice collabos. The Bigger Gun joint they did together was hot too.
