I mean I like where the music is goin, but listening to Cole (26) all this nigga talks about is high school, Drake (24), all this nigga talks about is some puppy love shit. nigga yall grown ass men! In comparison to the old rappers in the game today shit is stupid how mature niggaz were, talking about some grown ass situations
Scarface was 18 when he came out, 24 when he dropped the diary,
Biggie was 24 when he died, 21 when he dropped ready to die,
listen to life after death you would swear this nigga was +30 he was talkin about rembrandts at that age, even old ass Jay Z who prides himself on being a grown man bit his style and subject matter, and big was only 24!
But I can't lie even though Jay was 26 when he dropped RD, he was talking some grown man shit.
Bun B and Pimp dropped their first ep at 15, and were 23 when they dropped ridin dirty, some grown man shit.
Scarface, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, and Kool G Rap were all teenagers when they had it locked, they're all the same age as Jay and were doin it in the 80's

another back in my day, lol. biggie was rappin about fantasy shyt, being a drug don wit 10 ki's, i grew out of that sh!t at 17. hiphop has never been ''mature.''
Anyways comparing the rappers like kast, face, big, etc to rappers in this generation isn't the same. They came up under artists who were storytelling and lyrically above average so they HAD to come with shit like that. I dont understand where you're at with this j cole spits about high school shit.... I cant think of multiple songs on fnl or the warm up that are about high school shit.....
Most rappers are very immature.
J Cole claims to be a college graduate but his mental state is still stuck in high school like you said.
Drake cries everytime a girl doesn't text him right back and makes a song about it.

Hahaha! Yea I agree with this completely. The pop audience is younger and dumber today than ever that's why we're seeing this trend. In the 90s rappers wanted to see their faces in the source now they want to be on Nickelodeon.
agree, they tryna kick it with justin bieber nowadays, oh them two niggaz in your avi was talkin about fantasy, but believe they were on some grown man shit,
most real niggaz agree with me, I think it's that life experiences are lamer now,
im still waiting for the j cole high school shit. By the way he talks about shit he went through, niggas like drake cant rap like big and kast because he didn't come up in that atmosphere. Or would you rather him front????
example of J. Cole's immaturity, he always reminscing about being a kid like talkin about lunchables and shit, he's one of my favorite rappers out ,he talks about somethin mature later in the verse, and he definitely talks about subject matter I can relate to (being black, college) but he does rap a bit immature at times. Like he doesn't see himself as a grown ass man like say TIP does, T.I. may stupid, but he always conducted hisself like he was beyond his years, maybe cuz the nigga had kids young but i dunno
Wait... what y'all expecting J Cole and them to rap about then? Should he be talking about making sound business investments... or how bout pushing kilos and about how he'll run you down in your apartment if you don't pay? Dude ain't no gangsta, he ain't a businessman, he's a rapper who raps about what he knows.
Y'all the first to shit on a dude for being fake and now you saying that he should switch up his subject matter to be more "mature"
i mean, most artists blow up in the early twenties, and make music in that mind set.
then they have to spend the rest of their careers making similar music to keep relating to that demographic and selling.
u mean hip hop...back in the day the R&B stars were grown ass men singing about real love, real issues..Luther, Marvin, Barry, etc. Nowadays u got little teeny boppers who aint been through nothing really..
The only excuse I can come up for J. Cole is despite how much he talks about how he graduated in Magna Cum Laude, he also talks about how college was just a back up plan so since he college wasn't his PLAN A, maybe he doesn't value the days he had in those dorms, doesn't find those days to be special or responsible to be the man he is now.
But yes, Rap as a whole is immature content wise, the older I get, the less and less I listen and defend it.
Yeah, I think part of it is the maturity level of who they are making music for, part of it is artists seem to be getting their subject matter, sound, etc dictated to them by the record label...and finally I think alot of these newer artists really don't have the back story and prior life experiences of some of the older artists. Their stories ain't deep.
Like they don't have the Black Panther/living all over the country story of a Pac, or running drugs down the East Coast and being under street legends like Jay-Z.
However, like a Blu or a Fashawn were like early 20s and 19, respectively, and I felt like they were talking some real issh. Hell, even some of Cole's songs are deep too. Even Turn off the Lights, which was about smashing had some depth thrown in.
