Damn niggas still out chea bragging bout "being mixed with Indian" in 2011??? That shit irks the hell outta me for some reason the way a lot of Black folks are so quick to claim anything but Black and love to broadcast that they're not "full Black." I'm 25% blackfoot indian & my great grandfather was irish.

You can't tell because Im black as fuck but, my hair smooth. I never mention it because of this thread. It sounds corny to say you got indian or irish in you when you look 100% black.

I just saw a documentary by Dr. Henry Gates addressing this. He found out that in truth very few blacks have any Native in them at all. In fact, most of the blacks running around saying they have native in them really just have a lot of European somewhere along the lines.

I don't know...maybe it's the fact that for hundreds of years African Americans were conditioned to believe that being black was the worst thing on earth. That could have a small part of it. Seriously though, in that documentary, one of the experts said that historically blacks respected and held Natives in high regard because of their fight against the white man. They believed that warrior mindstate was honorable and wanted to claim some part of that.

No, that's the reason they feel like they can justify their belief that the claim is true. That's not why they want to claim it in the first place though. Nowadays, it's more like a fad though. Everyone wants to be different than the next person, so saying you're mixed with something exotic is a way of doing that.
