Anyone notice MMG's most popular artists are not from the South?

Think about it Ross has chosen

Meek= Philly aka East Coast
Wale = DC/ PG country Maryland aka Mid Atlantic
Stalley= Ohio aka Midwest

Its interesting because they chill in miami for videos and parties but these 3 up and coming MMG rappers are not from the south. But it brings up this issue that the south is not producing as many talented viable aritist like it did in the past decade. If they were wouldn't Rick Ross try to scope up talent locally from Florida or Atlanta?

    perhaps he's trying to gain an untapped market. as a southern rapper, he probably wanted to be able to go almost anywhere and have something the people can relate to, basically diversify his offering. smart business decision

    Philly isn't East Coast? ok.

    I was trying to be more specific. You could consider philly east coast influenced hip hop wise but geographically it is part of the mid atlantic region but its one all in the same.

    He doesn't strike me as a guy who is about having to put somebody from the south on. Just about piking who he thinks is hot who fits in with him and who can make him some money. Shit Stalley is from a small ass steel town. He put gunplay and all of them dudes on. He tried to put Pill on the map. but it could be b/c he didn't see any southern talent that he was feeling. Honestly I can't think of any emerging southern acts right now.

    Personally if I were on i'd be signing the guys i thought were talented and not just niggas from Dc b/c I'm from DC.

    Then South Jersey and Central Jersey would be considered Mid-Atlantic.........

    but yeah like the above poster said, its good business. Thats why he has MMG Jamaica, MMG Latino, and is planning to do a MMG West.

    Its just interesting to me everyone talks about the south has all these great rappers but rick ross doesn't have a person on his label from the south that can even generate a decent buzz. Also i think as far as trap rapping meek mill out trap raps 90% of the youngn rappers from the south.

    Im not trying to bump up any region or feel better about "my" region. Cause hell im from the tri state area and nyc niggas is wack and played out as fuck for the most part out here. Check my post history and you will see that I have critisized my region and every reason for being inconsistent when it comes to new rappers right now.

    All I am saying is it is interesting how guys like meek can have a style that was defined as southern and master it from philli. This just shows how non territorial the game is getting.

    Side note: lol at you using no homo this shit aint 2005 bruh lol

    Does it matter where they're from? They're all spitting over southern type beats anyway.

    seems like people have a hard time recognizing this.....they either want there region to hold on to the percieved dominance or return to dominance which isnt going to happen....jay e is rhyming like he's from up north with 5% references and asap rocky is rhyming with houston slang now....the regional style is almost non exsistent...them cats on mmg mite not b from the south, but they are continuing to push the mainstream hihp hop sound

    LIKE, HOW ARE YOU GONE LEAVE THE BOSS OF THE CREW OUT OF THE THREAD, WHICH SO HAPPENDS TO BE FROM THE SOUTH AND MIGHT I ADD THE HOTTEST RAPPER IN THE GAME?!?!?

    how do you type in all caps and act like it adds some sort of signifigance to what your saying? Nah serious tho I am not talking about ross as a rapper which yes hes from the south and has buzz. Im talking about him as this big rapper from the south not having another artist from his region be big in his clique.

    That's how G unit fucked up when you think about it. Instead of 50 having folks he can genuinely get along with he went to get a down south rapper and a west coast rapper. Just so he can say I got a guy from every region. In the long run shit didn't work out at all with buck and Game. and though they were all talented they really didn't get along and the music suffered. Then went the relationships and it all turned to shit.

    Very astute post.

    Rozay had multiple interactions with Wale before he signed him and they became cool with each other before he signed to MMG, the deal with Meek went down after they spent the week in Miami recording and just buildin'. Similar situation with Stalley.

    When you look at how WB just threw Pill on the MMG roster without Rozay actually choosing him you can't be surprised with how it ended. The Buck & Game situation was just embarrassing but like you said talent and relationships font always mesh when you just throw people together.
