Even if they don't carry guns, you still have to respect them for standing up against the government for what they feel to be unjust. Not that I agree completely with burning and looting, but there is more room to protest. I can respect that.

Honestly, a friend of my visited England, and she said that when people are unhappy with their government, they can try to overthrow it if they feel it's unjust. She said that they stick more to the principles of democracy there. At least there you can protest things without being shot down for exercising your right to dissent if you so choose.

One form of protest doesn't deserve more favor than the other. They're both rebelling against authority: people in London can't help the fact that cops don't carry guns. What they do have is the incentive to protest what they feel isn't right, which I can respect in any case, and this is coming from someone that has done protests regularly in the United States.

having to fight a corrupt unjust system for centuries is more testing than being able to riot without consequences

I'm a person who has done plenty of protests here in the US, and the fact that one is more "testing" doesn't stop me from respecting it. How can you not respect anyone based on the fact that the cops have rubber bullets or that they don't have the same police enforcement? That's actually a good thing to not have that. I respect any kind of protest, regardless of what cops have or not, because it's that spirit that counts most.
