Someone hears your song and notices the beat and not your lyrics?

I was jus in the studio wit some dude from around the way and the nigga rappin went slap the fuck off when someone came in and said
"damn. tight ass beat. who made that beat"

Nigga went on a tirade saying how its disrespectful to the artist. As if he's not even rappin

Not true, some people only hear the beat because that is what people have been conditioned to appreciate.

To answer the TS not at all. Some people only listen to that. I have had people tell me they didn't like my music based on the beat. First thing people hear and they have to like that too.

That is usually what people ask when in a studio environment and a song is being worked on, i dont take it as offense tho... What did you expect him to break down and claim your friend GOAT? Youre boy should be happy he said anythnig positive...

Its a easier and alot less enthralling statement when you just mention the beat.

I have seen this happen more than a few times and man, i gotta side wit the rappers

its one thing to compliment the song,
but to jus acknowledge the beat is like a slight diss IMO

these days people say 2chainz and future be "snappin". so hey, if those dudes can get lyrical recognition then i dont think anyone should ever have their lyrics not be mentioned unless they really suck that bad

I think sometimes guys really don't know how to compliment an emcee on first listen especially face to face, so the beat is something that natrually is going to draw someone in then they see what the lyrics have to offer, it's really a compliment if someone blesses ya track because if ya lyrics hold weight you got em. try gettin arrogant and go get a wack beat only a drum track and kill it with ya lyrics it won't matter so it's a good look, unless you know somebody is playin shade.

because sometimes the beat outshines the artist. trap artist are the prime example of this. No one would listen to that shit if it wasn't followed by a beat that knocks.

I don't rap but I think that would be something that would offend me. But I would be more offended if who I featured on a song was noticed more than me. Like if I put someone lets say Drake on a song and it got on the radio and on TV and everyone kept saying the song was Drake featuring me. That would upset me more because it's my song that I wrote and I'm not getting any credit for it.

A lot of niggas use the beat to carry their vocals and most of the time you hear a beat so sick it overshadows everything else. Case and point - Rick Ross, I couldn't recite one verse of his to you over beats like Stay Scheming, Aston Martin Music or w/e but I know the beat is sick. You gotta get creative with the beat and let your vocals express the beat, if that makes any sense LOLOL. Like listen to a Biggie or Jay-Z song, or even a 50 Cent song, and ask yourself how come their vocals still overstand the beat and record ? But I guess some cats have presence and some dont iuno. It's not what your saying its how you say it.

Personally, I don't get mad when someone compliments the beat and doesn't acknowledge me. Even if I didn't make the beat, I don't feel it's a slap in the face. Sometimes, people are naturally going to gravitate toward the beat first.
