Late Registration was the last REAL music/project he put out IMO

He's shown glimpses of his genius on Graduation and MBDTF (my only beef was too many guest features) but I dunno these days

Dude don't even produce shit anymore. All he talks about these days is Paris ..

So what y'all think? Yay or Nay?

solely thats somewhat true. but he's rarely not involved in the production with his music. people dont like how he has multiple producers on one track along with him, and thats understandable

he really hasn't produced anything on his own since late registration and I'm sure he had a team around him then too. I liked Graduation and MBDTF. 808's was wack. i would have to hear 2 wack projects in a row to say he fell off

I liked Graduation and MBDTF too

I think we'll have to wait on his next projects to really determine if he still has it.

I will say that he was never great lyrically and I think he usually had help writing his lyrics tho

Has always had co-producers on his projects. All of Late Registration was co-produced, so I do not know why that project is brought up, I mean was I the only one watching the specials about it? Kanye has NEVER produced an album of HIS OWN on his own. Kanye still is producing, so saying he isn't is ignorant as fuck, but I expect no better from some people. I do agree that too many features is a bad thing and is terrible. Missy has always done this and people award her as some great rapper, when she is fucking trash bad.

All his albums except MBDTF have been game changing, and Kanye has been taking the role of a traditional producer, do you think guys Rick Rubin and Dr Dre are in their playing all the instruments and doing all the drum programming? I thought he fell off after 808s but then he released the GOOD fridays and MBDTF so I will wait to pass judgement when he releases a solo album

    Exactly

I used to bump Kanye when he was doin the soul samples, not so much now. Don't think hes fallin off, just that he's tryna reach diff demos.

  • I've been saying that Kanye has taken a step back musically for a minute now (hence all the "feelings" I get on my profile).

Way Too Cold is completely average.

    Mercy is completely average.

This is short version of Kanye's timeline in my opinion since 2007...

-Graduation was good, not GREAT, not game changing, and definitely not Classic, but it was good. Consequently, at the time Graduation was made, it his weakest album imo...

-Then he went and made 808s... I gave him a pass because Kanye was on an emotional roller coaster at the time and probably needed to make this kind of album to get all that sour energy out of his system...

-MBDTF was fantastic except for the lack of Kanye West. I enjoyed 9 out of 11 tracks on that album, but only 3 songs were all him. And Ross catches all the hate for features... SMH... Also, Kanye improved lyrically, but his subject matter was lacking on this album...

-WTT was great. I enjoyed it thoroughly for the production and for Jay Z's lyrics. Ye on the other hand, was a tale of two artists...

Just like MBDTF, Kanye stepped his game up lyrically somewhat, but his subject matter on this album was terrible. Almost every song felt like Jay was just saying whatever he wanted to say in some lyrical manner while Kanye kept talking about fuckin' hoes/celebrities/actresses/hot bitches. And of course Kanye had to throw in more fashion references that nobody but him gives a fuck about.

Outside of No Church in the Wild, New Day, and Murder to Excellence, Kanye barely showed any depth on that album...

I am a huge Kanye fan, but since Late Registration, he has just been missing the mark to me... He is still an amazing producer and entertainer (WTT tour>>>), but as a rapper, he needs to bounce back in my opinion. He doesn't need be all backpacker and conscious like CD and LR, but he does need to show some variety in his verses and needs to "come back to earth" with shit that I would care to listen to.

    Just my two cents.

Graduation wasn't game changing? It didn't popularize mixing electronica with hip hop, introduce a whole new demographic of fans

I'd argue that every guest on MBDTF helped the album sans Swizz Beatz

I guess I just don't see that as game changing IMO... Who else produces tracks like that for RAPPERS anyways??? I know some dub step was on WTT, but the only other example I can really think of right now is Lupe's Lasers album and Busta's World Go Round single, which both sucked in my opinion...

Also, why does Swizz catch so much hate for his features? LoL...

When it comes to serious features, I honestly felt that Kanye didn't need Raekwon on Gorgeous. It felt like Kanye was in a zone, and then Rae just comes in and does his thing- it felt a little out of place to me.

It was still probably my second favorite joint on the album though, so I aint mad at it.

Swizz Beatz didn't add anything for that joint IMO, but as far as Graduation, there was definitely a sonic shift, just like with Roc-A-Fella w/ Just Blaze and Ye beats

Yeah, just like Madden 10 is the highest rated Madden ever, and we all know it ain't fuckin' with Madden 05...

Kanye was on comeback mode after 808's and the sorry drunken Taylor Swift saga. So when critics heard the updated lyricism and amazing production, they jumped on the comeback bandwagon...

Either that or Kanye is Illuminati LoL...

MBDTF Was Amazing, WTT was solid, not Classic but solid. So I'd say no but "Mercy", "Theruflu" and the other GOOD music tracks have been average so maybe the GOOD MUSIC compilation won't be that great. If anything I feel like Ye is continuing to evolve. Yes "College Dropout and Late Registration" are still his best albums musically but KanYe is still dropping heat. What I do agree about is the whole co-producer fiasco. I'm all for collaborations but before Ye use to do beats by himself, I heard No ID forced KanYe to do the "Otis" beat cause he was working with to many other producers. So in that way He is getting a little lazy but overall he's still a musical genius.

he slipped a bit musically, but I blame that bullshit on Shawn Knowles....Kanye spent too many days and nights hanging out with Mr. Knowles in the south of France eating cherry tomatoes and sipping on chardonnay. Eventually the euro influence will run its course and Ye would get back to dropping good music that we know he's capable of.
