But I think what UsMarine said is true also. "Fight the Power" was a catchy song and Knowledge doesn't have to be boring. Even if u go back to James Brown "Im Black and im Proud" that was a powerful but fun sing along song. Its just finding that balance which im trying to do as an Artist.
And also the ppl tryin to tell this generation what to do are not even part of this Generation. And there's a lot more going on in the community than "Sun Moon and Stars"

I think underground hip-hop is catchy... shit like "Just to Get By," etc. It's just not pushed to the forefront by label execs who pay for radio slots via Payola.
@DharmicX Just to get by got Talib a lil traction but the timing of that song was all wrong. If he woulda dropped it years before or even now it woulda blown up bigger.

Trying to play a hypothetical game about timing of certain records is tough to do just because a lot has changed in the industry in the last decade and also if he had waited to put out that song, whose to say he would be where he's at in the game currently. And honestly, the system within the mainstream and mainstream media outlets (radio, television, etc.) is so manufactured that it's very difficult for certain artists to break into those lanes anyways.
documentaries are cool and can be interesting and informative. but money and impact wise they cant touch avengers or goodfellas, etc. if people wanna try to teach in their music cool, even though thats the parents/guardians job But you cant expect it to compete with the blockbuster popular entertainment type of music.
Now it is easier to prove some of the things rappers say is wrong. No one wants to be clowned for making a song on the wrong side of a cause.
Common, Killer Mike, Big Boi, Lupe, Nas, & other have made and/or still make these songs
