Why are people so harsh towards Christianity

Horrible things have been done in the name of almost every religion and Christianity is no exception. But I hardly ever see anyone on here decouncing a religion like they do Christianity. I could be wrong. But I never see atheist attacking some eastern religions that are also inspired by the belief of a higher power. Why is this?

And please don't make any assumptions of who I am or what I am. I have my beliefs and I don't believe I have the right to push them upon anyone. I could be Muslim for all you guys know. It's just an interesting observation that has been brought to my attention through my time on the forums.

    because they cant introspect upon there own religions. also christianity has been pretty bad on a whole towards the "my religion must spread" aspect. missionaries are spreading it all over the world. look up the term cargo cult if you have the time.

    Why not? If Christianity was a righteous ideology, it would be able to withstand the pressure.

    I go after Christians more so than anyone else because thats what I have the most knowledge in, as soon as im finished with Quran and checkin some things I will go in equally as hard on it.

    And Christianity by far has been the worst religion throughout the decades. Being the largest and deadliest religion never will end in a good thing.

    This is a reasonable and honest answer. Now you mentioned Christianity as being the "deadliest" religion. Is it deadly because of the people who've manipulated it to further their own evil agenda or because of it's ideology. Is it Christians who give Christianity a bad name? Should we even call them true Christians? Where do you draw the line?

    its because of the belif of divine right to rule. the japanese had it until Hiroshima was bombed and the emperor was forced to go on the radio and say that he wasnt. europeons held this beleif to be true as well. i beleive that it stems from the questioning of themselves as in "why should i rule" so they justified using god. but the morales in the new testament dont really enforce that which is why they are CHRISTians.

    To me the true christians are the worst ones, they are the ones who will kill thinking they are doing it in gods name or it is the work of god. True christians are the ones who judge others based off their beliefs. To me it is deadly because the true christians, they are the ones who led crusades into places killing in the name of god to get a piece of land back. I believe some have definently used it to further their agenda only.. ie Hitler, but there has also been plently of killing and torture based of its ideology. So as to the first part yes I think it is the true christians who give the religion its bad image, and they are where I draw the line.

    I can deal with Christians who can accept that the book won't be 100% accurate because it was man who wrote it, I accept Christians who believe we should treat everyone with respect no matter race or religion. Sometimes they annoy me like my wife last night read my sig and flipped out n smashed my xbox because I wont believe in her god but wrote god like commandments for a basketball player. To me thats crossing the line. On the other hand she does believe in evolution and believes the Earth is older than bible time says. She is also willing to explore other options and base her beliefs on what she see's. I can accept those people, now if plug your ears and say lalalalalalala while any kind of logical questioning or scientific evidence points toward something non bible like, and you have that violent attitude toward the name of god then thats just crossing the line.

    All in all I guess those who follow the new testament are far better than those who also studied the OT because the two vary so much with violent acts it's two different monsters, and those with a good understanding of the OT and who fail to accept anything not in the bible are dangerous to people. Those who try to pray away global issues or illnesses instead of helping science find a way to fix them are bad for mankind. Those are the ones I can't stomach.

    No because that is literally what the bible preaches to do. It teaches that man should not question god or they will be dealt with, it teaches reasons to kill, it teaches to opress women, it teaches to kill those practicing satanic rituals. They arent doing something then linking it to the bible they are literally doing the things the bible tells them to. Using it to justify their actions is what Hitler did, he blamed the jews for christs death and created a reason to go after the jews, not because he believed it but because he wanted world domination and they were the easiest target because alot of Europe was under christian influence. The crusades werent because someone wanted a piece of land for their own desire, they were done because it was considered gods land. This is what I was taught my entire Christian life, anyone who questions or believes anything in the book isnt a true christian, however the man who lives by the bibles words and doesnt stray from even the slightest sentence is the true follower of Christ.

    I believe the reason for the harsh treatment of Christianity is that there is a misunderstood view of who a Christian is and it is not just with those who are not believers, but for believers as well. There is the impression by all who try to grasp it that it is a means to an end; that there is something to gain in being a Christian. There are personal agendas involved in whether or not one chooses to believe or not believe. I believe a lot of the murders in the name of Christ (or God) are not because they were serving a higher calling. They were serving themselves. It's one thing to hate somebody or something and you not have a cause beyond your own dislike. Throw in God and it makes a person feel that they can hate and it has a justifiable cause. The "God" element gives people a reason to try to free themselves from something that may be morally convicting to them. And to top it off, they can live forever in their own perceived notion "Heaven".

    cosign this. even though i dont choose christianity,your still making all the points that i was trying too. good defense of your religion.

    The Bible supports slavery......what religion do you think Thomas Jefforson, George Washington, and Christopher Columbus belonged to? How do you think slavery was justified by the Spaniards and the British.....by reading passages from the Bible that DIRECTLY support it. The Bible can suck my big black dick......I know I say that a lot but it still stands.

    Not really, read the Bible for urself and see what me and others here are talking about. I'm not part of any religion (I'm Buddhist but it's more a philosophy to me than a religion) so I have no reason to hate against Christianity or single it out. I don't look upon the Koran highly either if it makes you feel better.

    Thomas Jefferson wasnt christian, he like Ben Franklin didnt give a fuck about church.

    I didn't know that, I knew Ben wasn't a Christian, but I always thought good ol' Tom Tom was a Christian.....thanks for the history lesson. Now time for me to go to a jazz concert, see ya'll later.....

    I think People Percive differnents things with The Book, that the Concept that the TS and that Dude Elliot for the Other Thread is Trynna Convnive to ya. It seems as if ya r painting the Woes of Society (At the very Least Black Society) on Christianty because of various misconceptions and peopel misquoting, Misusing and just plain old Abusing it..............For Example, U state the it Supports Slavery, that this Was Justification the Slave-owners Used to justify the owing of Slaves.................Have U Taken into Consideration that the Thomas Jefforsons, George Washingtons And Christopher Columbus's of history [I]purposfully misinterpeted this to justify there actions and Alleviate their own Conscience??? That the Slavery talked about in the Bible and the Slavery Acted upon us by the Eurpeans Were to Different Concecpts and ideas ????
    Blaming parties For Twisting ideas of Belief Systems is 1 thing.............Blame the Religon for the actuions of others is an entirely different Concept............

    The problem with the right with divine rule is that people (notably the "Christian") feel they deserve to have that right; that it is somehow based on what they have done to earn it. There are passages in the Bible that if not understood correctly, it leaves a power-seeking person to believe that God is only favorable to those who can "show" that they are righteous.

    or you could go with my earlier post that explained why divine right to rule was wrong, and why people chose it. and christians lost it waaaay before the japanese. until VJ day the japanese believed their emperor was god.

    My thing is that I don't think that a divine right to rule is wrong. I just think that it is not man's right to say so. Chance are when some claims a divinity, they are doing so according to their own standards and attaching "God" as a reason for it. No one is worthy of such a claim.
