wondering when somebody would make this thread. i thought manic depression wouldve made it already by now. it should be stickied like the last one also.
Ive been listening to alot of cro-mags, discharge, and black flag lately
Yeah I didnt see the the original thread and I haven't seen him post lately so I decided to just do the honors. And agreed on the sticky
What's your favorite Black Flag album dude?
It has to be none other than "damaged". henry rollins was my fav. vocalist.
and coming at a close second would have to be "my war". yeah, yea i know. most hardcore purists would dismiss that album as a "poor black sabbath imitation", but i don't see it that way. i see it as an influential album that later paved the way for sludge metal and grunge. instead of staying within the traditional 3-chord punk voiceings, they decided to branch out and try something new. and that's exactly what drew me heavily to black flag in the first place. they often experimented with and borrowed elements from other genres and meshed it with hardcore
Honestly, my sentiments about the current rock scene mainstream wise are very similar to rap. its too stagnated. there's no balance like in the 90's. all u see are bullshit hot topic emo and indie rock bands on mtv and vh1.
So with that being said. the solution to this problem is to simply, just like with hip hop, look to the underground for quality. there's this one band i discovered that restored my faith in the current rock scene. they go by the name of "A Place to Bury Strangers". they are a noise rock/psychedelic/shoe-gaze group that is very reminiscent of joy division, jesus and mary chain, and my bloody valentine. ive got their first album but am soon going to purchase their new one
here are some of their songs. but just a bit of a warning before u listen, their sound is an extremely acquired taste. their music isnt necessarily very accessible so it isnt going to appeal to everybody.
yo Ounce, recommend some punk albums for me. I'm still relatively new to the genre even though I've been listening for a few years now. My favorite album of all time is Rock For Light if that helps any.

Alright West Brook i got you. it seems like your drawn to the more hardcore sound of punk. considering that your fav. album is rock for light and by some of the videos u posted. so going by that info i think you might really dig these albums
Minor threat - out of step (this album was very crucial in the formation of the straight edge movement)
Discharge - hear nothing see nothing say nothing (this band spawned alot of imitators. to me this was their best album. later albums tended to sound more like thrash metal)
Agnostic front - cause for alarm ( a definitive hardcore band from new york. and this was their best album. i think u might dig it)
Murphy's law - murphy's law (they were similar to black flag in the sense of drawing elements from other genres and incorporating it into their music)
Minutemen - what makes a man start fires (even though this is still under the hardcore umbrella, it has a more mature, sophisticated sound to it with great songwrighting
Amebix - arise ( even though its not technically hardcore and more crust punk, its still a great and intense album nonetheless)
There that should be enough for now. listen to them and tell me what you think
I wasn't feeling the Amebix album but I'm coppin some of those online. Thanks for the referral.
Yea i was kind of hesitant to recommend that album to u as it is more akin to crust punk, which is more along the lines of metal, than tradtional hardcore like bad brains. but lyrically the message is similar because it still talks about anti-establishment, authoriatarian regimes and anarchy. i just thought id give u one album that was slightly different from the other ones i recommended but was still considered punk. but i really didnt know how varied your musical tastes were to begin with so i never shouldve went there sorry bout that. my fault. but yea no problem, glad to see you like them
The Killers,Rolling Stones,The Fray, COLDPLAY(CHRIS MARTIN IS THE SH@T).MAN i LISTEN TO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. Sometimes I would rather listen to RNR before I listen to Rap(especially this new age simple minded sh@t).
