I MEAN JIGGA HAS SAID HE WOULD RETIRE ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS

1) HE SAID HE WAS GONNA RETIRE IN MY LIFETIME VOL. 1 CUZ HE WAS DEPRESSED AFTER B.I.G. DIED AND HE DIDNT WANNA RAP NO MORE. CAME BACK THE NEXT YEAR

2) HE SAID HE WAS GONNA RETIRE AFTER HARD KNOCK LIFE VOL. 2 AND PASS THE CROWN TO MEMPHIS BLEEK. THAT IS, UNTIL BLEEK BRICKED!!!!! THAT FORCED JAY OUTTA RETIREMENT AGAIN

3) HE SAID HE WAS GONNA RETIRE AFTER THE BLACK ALBUM. TOOK HIM 3 YEARS, BUT HE FINALLY CAME BACK.

WHEN WILL JAY FINALLY GIVE IT UP? I MEAN HE CAN STAY HOME AND GIVE BEYONCE BACKSHOTS ALL DAY AND HAVE 5 KIDS AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Threadstarter, do you think he should retire? If so, why?

As far as I'm concerned I'd love to see him continue to rap for as long as he wants. Same goes for Nas and all the other rappers who are truly gifted lyricists. Why is rap the only genre where we believe the artists should hang it up when they reach their 40s?? As someone who thinks rap, high quality rap that is, ought to be valued as a legitimate artform I want to see rappers take more risks and experiment with more developed forms of writing and story telling.

For instance, I would love to see a more knowledgeable, mature artist like Nas, Jay-Z, Joe Budden, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Kweli, 3 Stacks, Immortal Technique, Eminem, etc. attempt to craft something like an audio short story with indepth character development and utilizing narrative techniques. Rappers of this caliber are certainly creative enough to pull it off they just don't do it because (A) there isn't a market for it and (B) a large majority of their fans would bitch and moan that they soldout/felloff if they attempted it.

Anyways, I hope Jay doesn't retire. I only hope he tries to grow the artform he loves and I enjoy.

Probably never. He might stop doing full albums, but he'll do guest versus and the occasional tour. He'll probably ghost write a lot too.

Jay is the greatest rapper ever, he will retire when he decides to

also, to straighten up ur facts he was only originally suppose to drop reasonable doubt and then retire.  He also talked about retiring after the blueprint album

Hopefully never. Hopefully my fave artists keep making music. Jay, Kanye, TI, Nas, Rakim (his next album coming out one day ;_;), AZ, etc. Only in Hip-hop can having longevity be considered a bad thing.

exactly. this is what i dont get. i guess when your genre of music is so young (hip hop is around 30 years old) we are not used to seeing rappers grow older. singers and rock stars can get as old as they want. it should be the same with hip hop. im just waiting for the day people can accept it
