its the truth... after you sell 10 million records who gonna believe that your struggling... that your still selling packs... nigga if you been sellin dope for 10 yrs you shouldnt be sellin packs never mind havin millions of legit rap money... we ask rappers to be real but if 50 talked about his business meetings all day how much would he sell... Jay-Z damn near got crucified for Kingdom Come because he was talkin about shit other than drugs i honestly think the only ones that can be authentic in todays rap scene and get away with it are people like Nas, The roots, Joe Budden, Lupe, Talib, Common... people in those lanes... if u came out the gate a gangsta rapper then ya lifespan is gonna be short cuz everyone knows you for bussin ya hammer and huggin the block... after 3 cd's u shouldnt be doin that....WE DONT BELIEVE YOU YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE |

i must disagre wit u on some points becuz Jay got slayed on Kingdom Come cuz he sucked and he made our struggles seem beneath him ("young enuff to know the right car to buy but old enuff not to put rims on it") n*ggas dont wanna hear that...and even when Kingdom Come did come out Jiggawarriors didnt admit he fell off until American Gangser came out and they was like "JAY IS BACK" haha but honestly the rappers u named that can be authentic are the most hypocritical cuz they all went that route at one point and it jus didnt work and wasnt believable (except the roots) the grassroots of hiphop is the streets and once u make that commercial move and people feel like u sold them out for the money everymove u make will be watched...but there are artist out there who have made some money and still are able to speak to the street how they can understand and even tho they may ambelish we still appreciate it LIKE MY MAN JT FROM THE FIVE HEARTBEATS SAID "The cross ova aint nuttin but a double cross!" |

That is a god damn lie and I'm sick of KRS ONE and all of his broad generalization statements. Krs....Get the fuck outta here wit that goof ass shit.
Hip Hop is an art..and you can be a great artist when you're poor and an even greater artist when you're rich depending on your state of mind.
Yo momma don't wear no draws!!!

i understand what ya'll are sayin but what i get from the video he was sayin that back in the 80 niggaz was rappin about shit and it felt truthful... kane, G rap and niggaz like that spoke about the drug game and since they werent makin money back then the listener could believe what he sayin... i dont believe Game when he sayin half the shit he say... not because he's not creative or something like that... but after you reach a certain amount of money niggaz know you're still not a corner boy... thats just my opinion of the video rap doesnt feel authentic anymore it just feels like entertainment |

Thing is, I don't really focus on the exact subject of a rapper. I focus more on the subtext/pathos of a rappers content than anything. With pathos you can talk about anything as long as you make it flexible enough as a metaphor to relate to the average person's life. This is why we can listen to American Gangster (a concept album romanitizing the '60's Dope Man, a life no one on this site has lived) because there's plenty of "humanity" on the album. You relate to the ambition, desperation and dread in "American Dreamin". The glamour of flossing at a party and talking to a girl on "Party Life" and just the overall badass swag on "Ignorant Shit".
Wasn't for me, niggas still be dying for whores.
