I have never seen the big ****g deal with Nas. His lyrics are good, even great at times, but the way he delivers them makes him seem so ****g boring to me. I literally fell asleep after listening to Street's Disciple. I haven't listened to a single Nas album ever since. Nas gets props for Stillmatic, I Am, and Illmatic, but why do some people here put Nas on the same level as Jay-Z, Biggie, 2pac, and Eminem??? Nas doesn't sell a lot of records for a reason, cuz most niggas think he's a talented but BORING ass rapper. I have never listened to Lost Tapes and God's Son for the fear I was gonna fall asleep, the same way I fell asleep after listening to Nastradamus (probably Nas' worst album, next to Street's Disciple). Jim Jones doesn't have the most credibility when it comes to hip-hop, but he has a good point about Nas being very boring when he rhymes sometimes. I can put Nas at top 5, but would never even dream of putting him in the same category as a Biggie or Pac. I personally think Jay-Z is lightyears ahead of Nas too.....any coincidence Jay-Z is able to sell out stadiums on a daily basis while Nas can't even sell out a bar?
If I'm wrong or if you think I'm right, tell me why.

I can name 5 or 6 Nas tracks I loved, no problem: NY State of Mind, Verbal Intercourse, Hate Me Now, Oochie Wally, Get Down, Street Dreams, Ether... that says a lot. If one artist has five or more songs you like a lot, that legitimizes their place as a dope emcee. Still and all, I gotta agree, yeah, Nas is somewhat overrated. People are always saying he's a Top 5 MC. I don't think so. Maybe it's because I'm A LOT older than most people who listen to rap, but Nas doesn't even make my Top 10. He's dope, though. |

Why you catching feelings so hard? Were you molested when you were younger or something? Did a big black guy that looks like 50 bust a nut on your face when you were 10 years old? Chill out homeboy.
Like I said, if Nas is so nice, why can't he even sell out a bar? Jay-Z can sell out a stadium easily in England or Miami, but Nas can't even sell out a stadium in NYC. His MSG apperance years ago was a complete dud, it was only half full....what does that tell you? |

The BIG deal with Nas and the reason people hold him to high acclaim is easy: 1) Illmatic 2) "If I Ruled The World" 3) Stillmatic + beef with Jay Z 4) "Made You Look" 5) He's remained pretty relevant for the past 17 years ^^^^^^ That's just me looking at it from the perspective of someone who isn't a Nas fan. I personally think Nas is top 5 dead or alive and that Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, God's Son and Untitled are all albums that I'd recommend to someone who wasn't really feeling him. |

nas is the thinking black man's rapper
“This is our time to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth, that, out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope. And where we are met with cynicism and doubts and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people: Yes, we can.”
