In August.  Avengers #33.  So says the preview on Marvel.com.

At first I didn't think much of the whole "Elektra is a Skrull" thing, but after reading what Bendis said in that interview.........DAMN.  He's really making us think on this one.  This is gonna be a great storyline.

What. The. Fuck. Ever.

Why do official Marvel threads always end up getting lost? conspirarcy.

Anyway I got a lot of catching up to do with Marvel this week. Been behind for about 2 months.

Best baseball team at the moment: (as much as it pains me to say it...) LA Dodgers

Best movie I've seen in '09 so far: Sin Nombre

Best album I've heard in '09 so far: Blackout! 2

Best new comic book series: R.E.B.E.L.S.

Yesterday after I read New Avengers I was hyped.  I read those last two pages and had a holy shit look on my face. I was confused as to why the baby would be a skrull, and was schooled right quick.  I felt like the scope of this was big, but this shit is huge. I feel like Civil War, House of M, and World War Hulk are gonna pale in comparision in terms of the scope of this thing (whether it'll be better or not cant be said).  This story has a hell of a lot of potential to be really good.  I mean Bendis is saying some of the fucking Illuminati could have been switched back when they got taken on that Skrull Ship. This shit goes way back. Now I'm looking at back issues and see who changed and might be a skrull.  So now the questions for me is, who the hell is a skrull? I got my thoughts on who my be already

You have to look at it like this...If Bendis and company...because remember this story will play out over New Avengers (with the Hood) and Mighty Avengers (with Doom) as it leads into next summer...so its good for them to ahve a real build up...and with WWH building on the animosity between the heroes and setting things up...

I think this is another "genie in the bottle" for Quesada. He said he wanted Civil War to bring back the uncertainty & conflict between heroes from way back in the beginning days.

I think what we are seeing is the complete return-to-basics approach to Marvel relationships.

Instead of pulling a DC *actual reboot* crisis, they have systematically torn down the comfortable status quo, and now they can take as long as they want to build it back up.

House of M: Made mutants a rare, genetic anomaly. Made them more paranoid, outcast, and in danger than ever before,

Civil War: Forces the heroes to learn how to trust one another all over again. Really re-establishes the concept of "hero vs. vigilante."

Annihilation: Turned outer space into the wild west. Now massive territories are un-explored, dangerous, and mysterious.

The Hulk has been returned to a misunderstood, powerful, angry, world-level threat.

Namor & the Atlanteans, and the Inhumans have been turned back into real alien presences. Distrustful and distrusted by the humans and the gov't. Their real power and luster has been returned. They seem much more mystic and mysterious.

I think Quesada et al. are returning Marvel to the days when humans met aliens for the first time. The problem is, aliens and humans have been interacting for 40 years of Marvel publishing. They have to make it seem new and unique again. The best way to do that, is to tear away the comfort between characters.

I don't think all these events are connected in the sense that they are all going to crossover in next summer's event. But they are setting up a template where Skrulls shape-shifters and Inhumans and Iron Man can seem new and relevant and cool.

I'm sure people will read the issue and go "a skrull? that's it?" But I trust Bendis and Co. to make the idea of skrull shape-shifters exciting and dangerous again.
