IMDb]Various Plot Summaries: It's the 1980's and it's a different world. Superheroes have been outlawed, the only ones still in operation under direct control of the United States government. Suddenly, those heroes both still in action and retired find themselves targets by an unseen enemy, who wants to kill them one by one Written by Anonymous

A group of heroes, forced into retirement a decade before are called together once again to investigate the murder of one of their own. What they discover an age-old conspiracy to change the balance of power in a world not different from our own. Written by Kent Sanderson

An adaptation of Alan Moore's landmark comic book series, Watchmen is a story set in an alternative 1985, where the world is ticking closer to the brink of nuclear war, and a plot to eliminate a band of ex-crimefighters is instigated, but why? and by whom? It is up to two of those ex-crimefighters to investigate the plot that seems to go beyond the unthinkable. Written by Ruckwood

A crime/conspiracy story based on the influential comic by Alan Moore. Watchmen focuses on the every day life of out of work superheroes. Costumed superheroism has been outlawed, and most groups have been abandoned. But as a new threat presents itself, the paranoid masked detective/vigilante Rorschach uncovers a conspiracy to destroy all masked heroes. Written by Cody Darling

If this is released by next year then DC is gonna have comic films on smash between this and The Dark Knight. Now I'm sure about 80% of you are unfamiliar with Watchmen. In a nutshell there are 3 comics that were considered monumental by the mainstream press in the 80's. These are the comic's that helped redefine the way comics are written and paved the way for the current "darker" Marvel and DC as well as Image, Dark Horse and other independent comic companies. They were Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, Neil Gaiman's Sandman and Alan Moore's Watchmen.

This project has been in the making for years with everybody from Terry Gilliam (12 Monkeys, Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) to Darren Aronofsky (cancelled Batman: Year One project, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) being attached and not bringing it to life successfully. Gilliam even claimed that it was just unadaptable and is something that will only work in the comic format after years of trying to adapt it.

Many comic fans including myself consider this not only the greatest superhero comic series ever but the best comic mini series period. You guys know Moore's work since it's been adapted to film before (V For Vendetta, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Being that Moore has never given his consent on any of his projects and never will he won't participate in this. However I used to be one of those people that always thought it was unfilmable but now that I saw how faithful he was to 300 and how he managed to reinvent my favorite George Romero film I have faith in Snyder with this. He's keeping it in the 80's which is hella important so that's a good sign right there. Let's hope this finally happens cause it could be the greatest comic adaptation ever if pulled off correctly.

Interview with Zack Snyder (300) where he elaborates on what he wants to do with the flick.

I like the idea of having Gerard Butler I could only see him as Dr. Manhattan though. Tom Berenger and John Cusack are The Comedian and Nite Owl Snyder must realize this. Jude Law is a huge fan of this story and wants in on the movie if they must then I see him as Ozymandias with no problem. I will update this thread frequently since this is a project that I'm extremely curious about so be on the lookout for an wrote:

Not a comic book head, but the summaries make it sound interesting.

Will it be shot like Sin City and 300?

I rememeber when this book came out and the dude at my old comic dump was just raving about "This is the Greatest Book" of all time rant...so I just quit listening to him and continued buying my normal junk.  So about 5 years back I decided to bid on eBay and won the whole set (2 actually) and when I read it I realized what all the fuse was about.  I've been waiting for them to make this movie but I just don't want it to be cheesy.  I guess with the good job that's been done recently with the Spider-Man movies, and the good work on Hell Boy doing Watchmen shouldn't pose that big of a problem.

I loved how they put the small clip in the 300 Trailer...fanboyism to the max with that clip :tu

watch Little Children. He was nominated for a Oscar for the film. He is know also for the 'bad-ass older' kid in Bad News Bears.

I think his casting was absolute genius based on his role in Little Children. The character is really mentally disturbed. He was abused as a child and creates the Rorschach as a persona to exude strength and justice. Outside the suit he is a frail lil man.

The resting of the casting i am not sure about:

Patrick Wilson seems to young, charming and atheletic to play Night Owl based on how interputted the charater. He doesnt have the nerd factor i think the owl had.

Jason Patric based on rumors I could see as Doc Manhattan

Thomas Jane also rumored to play Comedian would be a good fit

pretty good interview from a couple months back.

I like a lot of these choices, no forced big names but just guys who respect the comic.

Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based on five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, and county commissioners.

Anarchy is the true nature of all things. Monarchy, democracy, communism, all useless forms to control the human mind. But a mind cannot be controlled. It cannot be restrained. It has no boundaries. It has its will. Anarchy is the true nature of all things.

Anarchism means you should be free; that no one should enslave you, boss you, rob you, or impose upon you. It means you should be free to do the things you want to do; and that you should not be compelled to do what you do not want to do. (...) That is to say, that there should be no war, no violence used by one set of men against another, no monopoly and no poverty, no oppression, no taking advantage of your fellow-man. In short, Anarchism means a condition or society where all men and women are free, and where all enjoy equally the benefits of an ordered and sensible life.

couldnt agree more. seems they are focused on an ensemble that really fits the character rather than just the big hollywood draws.

Converesly I am very skeptical on I Am Legend because of this. Will makes entertaining flicks but it seems they are bastardizing the source material in order to make it a blockbuster. But i guess there is nothing new bout that.

I'll definitely check that movie out. I like Patric for Manhattan because he could play aloof characters well, I like Jane for the comedian cause I know they won't be limited thanks to makeup,  they'll use him the war flashback and that is one of the most important aspects of the story in terms of nailing his character aside from him raping the silk spectre and using the same actor gives it authenticity. I always wanted to see John Cusack as Nite Owl 2 because Dan has a lot of the characteristics that a lot of Cusack's previous characters have had so he'd be in his element. I'm willing to give Wilson a chance though after all when Gerard Butler was cast as Leonidas aside from the huge "WTF the Dracula 2000 guy" he didn't look physically fit for the part but ended up owning the role.

As for I am Legend well I wrote it off as soon as I saw the first pics. I knew then that it just wasn't for me. It may not be as big a butchering as the one done to I, Robot but I figured due to the other 2 adaptations (which I didn't like) being lackluster in terms of faithfulness that aside from changing Neville's race which is no big deal this one would be much more in spirit with the book. But judging by the trailer it's just another Will Smith movie that I really have no interest. I am Legend is one of my favorite stories of all time and I'd just rather stick with the story itself. What sucks about is that it could've been one of the boldest films ever if it followed Matheson's blueprint much more closer and Will definitely has the acting chops to handle it. Too bad.
