I was listening to NWA's niggaz4life cd, and the song " don't matter just don't bite it" MC Ren talks about running a train on a 14yr old girl. I was like dam why do I like this.

plus since my oldest daughter is 14, I find myself skipping some songs, like dam I didn't realize how much profanity was in that song.

also one of my favorite parts on one of my favorite styles p. songs "holiday" is when he says

"I'm an ignorant and negative nigga

I sell crack, bust guns, pop shit, and say I'm better than niggas"

I love that shit!

now i listen to music as entertainment, but some cats try to let some of these songs define them.

I'll never give up no form of hip hop, but I wanted to get some honest feed back on this from the r&r fam. peace.

Ahh man, this is ironic, I just wrote an article on this for a friends company. Will post it when I get home.

First of all people have to accept responsibilities for the own actions. I think that if anyone is gonna do some dumb sh*t, they would find anyway to justify their action, if it wasnt a particular song they would find another reason.

I dont believe rap music is a conpsiracy from the govt as the video says, FIRST AND FOREMOST the music is for the people, by the people and carried positive messages about culture and issues pertinent to the day. Is this artform now being manipulated by the powers that be to serve a hidden agenda? Maybe so. I guess thats the bad side of a good thing.

I will agree with the voice in the video though when he said 'control the music control the children'. I thought that was so insightful and something Ive actually been thinking about lately.

Music SINCE THE BEGINNING used to be (and still is) about bonding between families and communities, whether it be just a celebration and dance or ritual, or used to teach the youth stories about where they came from or moral lessons. That is why music is such a gift. Now pop-music is garbage and nothing but non-sense literally - it makes no sense. Look at nursery rhymes? they dont tell no moral lesson to the kids, most of them are european stories about the black plague or about war. I dont teach no nursery rhymes to my daughter! I teach her lyrics from reggae music.

Peter Tosh said it best

Your teacher used to learn in school
How a cow flies over the moon
You teacher used to learn in school
How a dish run away with a spoon, so

You can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth of today

You teacher used teach about Christopher Columbus
And you said he was a very great man
You used to teach about Marco Polo
And you said he was a very great man, so

You can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth, not at all

When every Christmas comes around
You buy the youth a fancy toy gun
When every Christmas comes around
You buy the youth a fancy toy gun, so

you cant blame the youth!

You can blame the teachers and parents though. The kids are our responsibility. We have to teach them the way. Music is a powerful tool to do this. Its possibly the most powerful weapon on this planet.

Its like Ritual
Conversation with the Most High
Makes u wanna cry
I wonder why
You wanna get to Paradise
but that itty bitty part of you dont wanna die
- Like Water for Chocolate
