WASHINGTON (CNN) – Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is expected to announce Friday that she will not seek a second term, three sources tell CNN.

Palin has scheduled a 3 p.m. ET news conference at her home in Wasilla. The governor’s office offered no further details about the subject of the news conference, but the sources tell CNN that Palin will announce her decision to forgo another run.

"She thinks she has accomplished goals she has set forward," one of the sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said. "She sees what a positive influence she has had on people's lives from traveling the country in the last year."

As the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, Palin is considered one of the frontrunners for the GOP nomination in 2012. Her decision not to seek another term as governor is sure to stoke speculation that Palin is seriously eyeing a run for the White House.

Not running for re-election = ok, she's prepping for her primary run

Resigning = HUH?

Her conservative stans can't believe it either. Something's weird about this. Maybe the bitch really is crazy. Or maybe some scandal's on the horizon. Maybe the crazy Trig theories weren't all that crazy...?

She is being investigated for embezzlement. All politicians do this, but I think she might be too much of a hassle for the GOP (which is why the investigation probably started).

But then again that's crazy talk. This is all just a coincidence. people in power resign for absolutely no reason all the time.

As much as I hate her politics and am glad to see her go - some of the attacks on her by liberals were kind of making me disgusted. It's the same old liberal establishment - let's make fun of Bush for his accent and dumb quotes, but not talk about his harmful politics. This comes from the fact that many of the public figures ridiculing Palin or Bush actually support or enable their policies. Liberals can make fun of Bush out of one side of their mouth while supporting candidates like John Kerry who argued for a troop surge before Bush ever considered it.

I think it's a bad tactical move too because someone like Palin is used by the establishment to make right-wing populist appeals and when liberals make fun of her for being "white trash" it only helps to pull dissaffected poor people to identify with her faux-populism.

"You remember how much I used to like Plato. Today I realize he lied. For the things of this world are not a reflection of the ideal, but a product of human sweat, blood and hard labor. It is we who built the pyramids, hewed the marble for the temples and the rocks for the imperial roads, we who pulled the oars in the galleys and dragged wooden ploughs, while they wrote dialogues and dramas, rationalized their intrigues by appeals in the name of the Fatherland, made wars over boundaries and democracies. We were filthy and died real deaths. They were 'aesthetic' and carried on subtle debates." Tadeusz Borowski
