So, I have a couple ipods and was about to get an iphone until I found out it's silly and the blackberry storm crushed it.  But, I noticed from an earlier thread that there's an ass load of Mac users here that seem to think that Macintosh is the second coming of christ.  I'll give credit where credit is due, OS X is based on UNIX so it's stable and it does ship with apache server but, both of those perks can be found on a PC for free.  So I have 2 questions:

1.  What makes Macs so great?  There's nothing that macs do better than PCs.

2. What makes a Mac a Mac, it seems to just be a name on a machine.  Is that correct?

Mods please don't move, I would post this in Illtec but that place is dead .  Please the other Mac thread is here.

No, subjective comments like it's easy to work or it's cool or some foolishness like that.  I need facts.  Post price, performance benchmarks that you've reached, system specs, software packages, what every you need to get your point across.   I'll entertain any half decent post.

Mac users stand up!!!  well, if you can stand on that that weak sh*t.

ok as far as music, the mac has a more stable OS. it hardly ever crashes and there's really not as many viruses out there for the mac in comparison to the pc. I only use my Mac for recording, in my studio. but that's it. everything else is pc.

I was saying the same thing, but when I decided to get a Mac just because of music production, was when I actually experienced  how much easier to work the mac was. The Mac is for people who basically dont really have time to deal with technical problems. Ultimately you have to check it out for your self for a while to know for your self.

I see..  What music packages are ya'll using? Clearly not fruity loops or audacity.   I've crashed an annihilated more macs than PCs.  My OS on my PC never crashes and I push'em to the limit.  I put my foot in every computer I own, even the PS3 and have yet to crash an OS.  I had that thing serving files for a week and it didn't budge.

I use Logic, reason, and pro tools and I haven't had an issue yet. The biggest project I had since switching was recording the Cal marching band as they performed and I didn't have a single issue and I would have been nervous if I had to do it with a pc....with the pcs and music there is too much tweaking and custom shit I would have had to do to get it to perform the way I want it to......

I'm pretty sure you can just download it....have you gone to the apple store to see if there is a free download?

edit: I just checked and you have to pay for it through the store....but since its included with the OS try putting in the OS software disc....you might be able to just reinstall it from there.
