Is it abnormal to not care about owning a home?

Me and wifey was discussing this about a month ago. We were talking about renting vs owning. In my math class we had discussed how long it would take to pay off homes and most of what you pay is actually in interest. I basically came to the conclussion that I dont ever want to own a home. I'd be cool renting a house or condo and not worrying about property/home taxes/mortgages. Is this a wrong way of thinking? She said she would want to own a home so she could pass it on to her children years down the road and they could have either a house or a large sum of money once they sold it.......i was asking her....is that the only incentave to own a home? I mean i get that owning a home means you can add on to it and have freedom over what you decide to do with the property.......but I honestly dont care

maybe my mindset will change. Im young so right now all I know is renting; the only house I ever lived in was already paid off and was a piece of crap....i had memories of everything being broken :unno. So maybe that has distorted my mindset of owning.

so homeowners, why exactly should I want to own a home? What are the pros and cons?

Then we tried to name our babies,
but we forgot all the names that,
the names we used to know.

I would say yes because you never are going to own the apartment. Atleast with the house you will own it and you can use it as colleteral after time passes. Its a much better look wit the house homey.

VoilĂ ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.  The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. - V

I like the thought of owning property. But when you do get to the nitty gritty of it all.....I believe the biggest incentive is having something to leave to your family whenever you do perish, just like ur girl said. Owning isn't a necessity for some people, and if you aren't interested in leaving that type of inheritance than you might not need to own a home.

At this point in this area....owning a home ends up being cheaper than renting one. It's crazy. I like the idea of renting because u don't have to pay for any of the maintence. It's always on someone else's dime.

This renting shit aint cool.  My mama mortage is like 5 something a month but I phuckin' pay 734 for a two bedroom apartment.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

property taxes, insurance, interest rates on your mortgage, america has heralded home ownership as the be all, end all investment thats guranteed to return profit or atleast some sort of peace of mind. looking at all these niggas getting assed out of there homes, during the housing melt down, i would say theres nothing abnormal about your stance.

why the fuck are you worried about what im doing ???
