This thread is depressing.
Why would you only listen to music from your era?
I actually got introduced to the music of James Brown and George Clinton through samples I listened to in the music of my youth like Rakim and Ice Cube.
Everyone has their preferences but why would you dismiss a whole era of music due to age or whatever.
I was just pumping some Future today and, while listening to "Fuck Up Some Commas", I decided to go find the original sample to the song. I knew it was a popular sample that has been used in tons of rap songs and even a Tarantino movie (Kill Bill, I think) but I didn't know it was a Quincy Jones joint until today.
I'm not a hiphop "snob"... I find inspiration in all eras of music (be it hiphop or other genres).
