Thing with Biggie & Eminem is their reputations made it acceptable b/c the public got exposed to it over a long period of time (in Em's case) . Eminem took a lot of heat by the gay community when he shitted on them & took a lot more from women's groups not long after. He had to dance with & hug Elton John on stage to prove a point that they were just lyrics. It took a lot of sensitizing for people to realize that it was apart of Eminem's "gimmick". Biggie on the other hand ? He was suppose to be a gangster rapper & that was him being grimey. It's not different than say - a 50 Cent saying he's going to kill you while your baby mother watches. His image makes it acceptable for people to give it a pass whereas the other 2 aren't so lucky.
I love Kweli's music but I can't co-sign him on this. Ross & Lil Wayne are the voices of a generation, they're to be held accountable b/c they're the biggest targets. They can be made an example of and people will get the point... They know dayum well of the power music has. Ross saying it's ok to ruffie a bitch gon start a whole new trend of dumbass niggas puttin date rape drugs in drinks. As for Wayne, sometimes certain things just aint necessary this was an example. Aint got shit to do w/ whether or not you like or hate on them. For years we've ripped on rappers for not being held accountable for lyrics & things they portray but now when somebody step up and say something it's a problem. The hypocrisy & contradictions of media is hilarious to watch SMMFH.
Big is a LEGEND/GOAT point blank.... I know it's gonna be cats who will rag on him for only having 2 albums but Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Pun etc. they guilty of having very few albums but we don't discredit or undermine their contribution to music. Hendrix is still hands down THE greatest guitarist of all time, Kurt revolutionized (or created depending who you ask) Grunge. Big's lyrical style was so sought after, u got cats like Hov, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Kiss & even 50 Cent trying to copy. 15-16 years later & niggas still recycling his verse. You judge greatness by not only sheer skill but impact as well. Coastal beef w/ Pac, sales, the lyrical style, pop culture icon, etc. New York still aint been the same since Big left......
Man I love Biggie Smalls fam, (n/h just in case SMMFH) to this day before I leave the house I still play that song & I still say the "Hustle's Prayer" before I go to sleep.....
Let that man cook. Let him take his time to release the best quality music he can. When the timing is right he will drop.
Good pick up tho, definitely a W for Jay-E. Just based on affiliation imagine the circles a broad like that gonna open homey up to. If not for her wealth & lineage, she wouldn't be able to pull this shit off w/o turning off her supporters. They aint even call her a wench or nothing for leaving her ex, her rep is still intact so Jay-E won.
