The fact is they could have kept Harden but they didn't want to pay too much over the cap. What were they 10m apart? Yeah he played 🤬 in the finals but you can see the talent. When you have three players of that level, you bite the bullet and keep him.

dude, we offered him 55 million. rockets offered him 80 million. like I said, you know nothing. I like how you skip around the major issue here which is the new CBA. we wouldnt be able to put anybody else around the guards and shooters if we keep him. not to mention we could ruin the franchise if we keep him due to paying the luxury tax. we didnt win a title with Harden so what the 🤬 is your point there?

He offer him 80 mill after they traded for him, Harden apparently wanted 65 from OKC. The fact is they didn't have to trade him when they did, they could've kept him for one run. He would've been a restricted free agent, they could match (would be a 4 year contract) or sign and trade him

Because "amnesty" doesn't mean you don't pay them. It means they don't count against the cap. But either way, Harden's contract would've put us in the luxury tax AND we would've had to still pay Perkins the last 18 million dollars of his contract.
Thus the true price-tag on re-signing Harden in 2013 *alone* would've been at least 38 million dollars. So I guess a shooter that plays no defense is worth 38 millie in one year with no money to spend on the front court, huh?
