The Samsung Galaxy S4 is old news. Sure, it's a great smartphone - as you'll see in our in-depth review - but now all eyes are firmly locked on the Samsung Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched at MWC 2014, with Samsung's fifth Unpacked conference packed with journalists looking to see what the latest Galaxy device holds.

Read our hands on: Samsung Galaxy S5 review

While it was never in doubt that the tech giant would deviate from the highly lucrative Galaxy S prefix, given what happened with the Samsung Gear – anything could have happened.

It launched, though, with the GS5 monicker but is it the best phone in the world? Read on where we reveal all the specs you need to know and what we thought of the device.

Cut to the chase
What is it? The sequel to the Galaxy S4 - a more refined phone with fewer gimmicks
When is it out? The Samsung Galaxy S5 is available globally from April
What will it cost? The Galaxy S5 will cost around £550 / $650 / AU$700

It's not a bad practice. Most people get their phones through their cell provider. That usually means buying phones in two year cycles which means every year there will be a crop of people looking to buy a new phone. As a result it makes sense to release yearly updates.

I'm not feeling this 🤬 if true I'll hold on to this phone a few more months until my upgrade and either get the Note or the Mega.

Hell I might even look at the iPhone depending on what kinda new features they bring to their next device.

I like HTC phones better anyway. They aren't quite as bogged down by software I'll never use and they don't feel as cheap. They do the incremental upgrade every year too. That's the way of the industry now. It could be worse. Sony seems to be setting a pace of releasing 🤬 every 6 months now.

I wish Samsung would put better antennas in their phones that 🤬 is a serious flaw that needs attention.

Yep, that's one reason why I don't get them. My wife has a Note 2 and my Droid DNA gets way better signal almost everywhere we go.

That depends I guess. iPhones will have better performance due to the superior optimization and lack of bloatware. S# phones have superior software and options. It all depends on what you prioritize.

I removed the bloatware off my Note 3. I think it's to late for the iphone/Apple to reclaim their dominance. It took Samsung to be a threat to them before they started to make real changes to their OS. They were too cocky.

Even without the bloatware, iPhones will still perform better. Samsung just isn't very good at optimizing their hardware for the software they load. Their phones and tablets almost always have the best or among the best specs and are still noticeably slower and less smooth.

Yeah I'm due for an upgrade but imma wait to see the iPhone 6 and nexus 6.

Hard switching from an iPhone tho because nothing else runs like it. The 🤬 just works everything is smooth & optimized.

It wouldn't be as hard as you think. Most high end Android phones run smooth. That said, if you're not very skilled with tech, getting the most out of an Android phone may see a little more difficult than with an iPhone.
