The film's release has also been moved up three months and will now open on May 19, 2017, shifting from its previously announced Aug. 4, 2017 date. Covenant will now open against Warner Bros.' horror sequel Annabelle 2 and Paramount's Baywatch reboot, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Covenant is from Alien director Ridley Scott, and will feature Noomi Rapace, reprising her role as Dr. Elizabeth Shaw from the 2012 prequel Prometheus. Rapace will be joined by franchise newcomers Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride. Her Prometheus co-star Michael Fassbender is returning as the android David in the 20th Century Fox film.

The poster signals what the title of the film already has: while Covenant began life as a sequel to Prometheus, it has been reshaped to benefit from the success of the beloved Alien franchise Scott created with the original 1979 film. Prometheus teased elements of Alien, and included a creature that resembled a precursor to the xenomorph that terrified audience sin the original, but the film divided fans of the franchise.

An official synopsis released last November described the film as a second chapter in an Alien prequel trilogy, with the colony ship Covenant discovering a paradise world on the far side of the galaxy, only to learn it's actually a dangerous world whose only inhabitant is the synthetic David.
