This topic has been touched on a little bit in the politics thread but it's a topic that affects us all and our pockets when it comes to paying for internet access.
A few days ago the FCC made the decision to repeal net neutrality laws that were put in place by the Obama administration and on December 14th there will be a vote on the official repeal of these laws.
What this means is that ISPs(Comcast, AT&T U-Verse, etc.) will have the ability to regulate what you can or can't see on the internet. They could block certain websites, slow down certain services like Netflix or Hulu, and charge premiums if you want to reach certain online content. An example is that Comcast owns part of Hulu, without net neutrality Comcast can make Netflix go slow as 🤬 , prompting Comcast customers to subscribe to Hulu instead, which just puts more paper into Comcast's pockets.
Packages like this could soon become a reality

The FCC Chairman is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. So it is possible for net neutrality to come back once there is a new president.

Any political movement they don’t like they will now have to power to suppress it.
Ajit pai is even taken steps to prevent states from having their own version of net nuetrality

of black people are spreading knowledge and teaching the people about racism and how to defend yourself against
it. Also people are caking off the internet,🤬 got youtube channels where all they do is play 2K and they make 6
figures,people like DJ Akademiks will no longer exist,they start charging for sites like Youtube ON TOP OF already
paying for your service provider that's gonna take away like 85% of your audience. -

They would end up 🤬 themselves anyway if this happened, people would just cease to pay for the all but dying cable industry. Charging more for something doesnt mean there is more money to spend, it would just come from somewhere else.

🤬 this may be the reason theyre doing it. Ppl dont wanna pay for cable bc of what they have access to on the internet.
So charge for the internet 🤬 .....thats how they make up their losses from cable

True. But Once it's enacted, the amount of corporate pressure on who ever opposes it once these ISPs start raking in the money makes it very very unlikely -
