Capcom vs. SNK 2 Released as PS2 Classic on Japanese PlayStation Network
http://shoryuken.com/2012/09/18/capcom-vs-snk-2-released-as-playstation-2-classic-on-japanese-playstation-network/

According to PSN Stores, Capcom vs. SNK 2 was recently released on the Japanese PlayStation Network for 1,200 Yen ($15 USD), it's a 240 MB download.
Little else is known about the game at this point, beyond that's it's a port of the PS2 version, that was originally released back in 2001.
Capcom has said on a number of occasions that a new contract would have to be struck for them to be able to re-release this title, and it appears they were able to work out something — at least for the Japanese player base — to get this to go through.
There's no word yet on if this will be available to gamers outside of Japan.
News surfaced recently that today’s update to the PlayStation Network in Japan included a very special title that’s sure to interest many of you. Capcom vs. SNK 2, the classic fighter frequently hailed as one of the best in the genre, is now available in Japan as a downloadable PlayStation 2 Classic. Seeing as it isn’t a true re-release, this title doesn’t come packaged with anything like updated graphics or online play, but it’s still a welcome sight for old-school fighting fans.
While this development doesn’t mean we’ll see the title released in the States any time soon, it’s certainly a step in the right direction as well as a small glimmer of hope for those who would like to see it available on a modern console. Let us know in the comments what you think the future may hold for this title in other regions.

SNK probably wants more than what Capcom is willing to pay for a HD remake.
SNK saw very little proceeds when these games originally came out. -
theres alot of licensing issues, the Rival Schools characters have problems getting licensed
Thats why they said they cant release Rival Schools as a ps1 classsic -
With Capcom vs. SNK 2's recent digital release on the Japanese PlayStation Network, many fans wondered if this would be hitting the U.S. PSN store. They also asked if the game's online play feature would work.
Capcom's Christian Svensson responded to these questions, and noted that:
Svensson: No joke, we just found out about this about a week ago (embarrassingly it wasn't in any product roadmap). The digital sales team is seeing what they can do on our side to get it up since it seems someone in Japan solved a legal issue that was previously a blocker.
To the best of my knowledge, it's a PS2 ROM running under emulation (as Godhand and Maximo also are). No idea what the original matching system ran on but I'd suspect it's no longer functioning. There was no new development/online work done here that I'm aware of (otherwise it would have been on our product roadmaps).
