Somebody once said that talking about music is like dancing about architecture.
Having said that, I'll try to explain what I mean. First of all, go on you tube or wherever and try to do some research on what a whole note, a half note and a quarter note means. There's even such thing as a eighth note and a sixteenth note.
Hip Hop is in 4/4 time. That means there's 4 counts in a bar and a quarter note counts as one beat.
Boom-Boom-Bap Boom-Boom-Bap <<--That's one bar
When you use multis you can speed up what you are saying like Bone Thugs, they use many syllables but the music is still in 4/4 time. Or you can slow down what you're saying like the way Master P raps, he drags out his words. I'm sure you'd agree that Bone thugs put more words in a bar than master P does, but its still in 4/4 Time.
I think you would benefit from going to youtube and looking for an explanation of time meters. But just remember Hip Hop is in 4/4 time 99.99999999 percent of the time. (There's such thing as 3/4 time meter and 5/4 time meter but you don't need to know that.)
so really matching syllable count has nothing to do with flow as long it actually rhymes and is more then one syllable long it is considered a multi correct ?
Nah, what makes it a multi is the fact that you have words within the bar that rhyme. Listen to that Run DMC song I posted. That's the beginnings of multis as I remember it.
